New year is a time to learn new skills

For many of us, the past two years have seen us put our careers on hold as we focus on staying safe – with progression in the workplace understandably playing second fiddle to happiness and health.

But, with restrictions expected to ease further as 2022 progresses and we increasingly revert to a semblance of normality, the new year represents an ideal opportunity to explore the options available to you and your career.

While that may be a new role in your current company it could also be the lure of a new challenge, the chance to start afresh and pursue a long-held ambition that was put on pause by the pandemic.

Northampton College is holding a virtual open event in January aimed at adults interested in taking a part-time course to add a string to their bow in preparation for a new start.

The online session will take place between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Thursday, January 13, with a focus on three main strands; digital, distance learning and fast-track.

It offers prospective students the opportunity to find out more about the courses available to them and learn how a return to learning could benefit them and their career.

Pat Brennan-Barrett, Principal at Northampton College, said:

“Most jobs require basic digital skills, including being able to communicate via email or social media, to create and edit digital documents, and to search for information, or to protect personal information, online.

“Our courses are delivered by supportive tutors who will guide and work with you to help you achieve your learning and personal development goals.

“We want to continue to encourage adults to develop knowledge and skills and gain valuable qualifications to develop their career, return to work, enhance their digital skills or to take up a new interest.

“Our courses are offered on a part-time basis and have been designed to fit around your lifestyle and work commitments – with most courses even offered for free or at a minimal cost. In addition, there are several short courses that can be studied online, meaning you can start them at any time throughout the year and complete them in your own time.”

For employers, these short courses can offer a great way of upskilling staff.

Northampton College also offers a growing number of distance learning courses which are supported by an expert delivery team. If you’ve got a clear career objective and are looking to up-skill your knowledge for your dream career, a professional qualification could be the answer.

You may not have been inside a classroom for years, but you won’t be alone if you sign up for a course.

Northampton College’s online and distance learning courses are ideal for adults aged 19+ who would like to gain a new qualification, but don’t have the time to attend college. All the courses are delivered in bite-sized chunks and can be started at any time throughout the year, making them ideal for people who are looking for flexible
study options.
