Bosworth Independent College A-level student Sahar has received an offer to study Engineering at the University of Cambridge, and her achievement has been celebrated at the CIFE Academic Awards Ceremony, which is held annually at the House of Lords.
Lord Lexden awarded Bosworth’s Year 13 student with the CIFE’s Student Achievement Award for her continued commitment and excellence in her studies.

“We are extremely proud of Sahar’s academic and personal achievements. To receive the Students Achievement Award from Lord Lexden is an incredible honour that showcases Sahar’s dedication to her studies and that our teaching is of the highest level.
“Each year our students achieve outstanding academic results with the majority progressing to the top 30 UK and Russell Group universities. It is a source of pride that we equip students well for their next steps. We have an Oxbridge Coordinator and a Competitive Universities Coordinator to help prepare those students who have been identified as Oxbridge or Russell Group candidates. We start the process by identifying those children who are only 14 or 15, but who have the potential to go to a leading university. We run after-school programmes so that when they get to 17, they are at the point where they are ready to apply for the top degree courses.
“We have recently introduced a Medic Programme Coordinator, who is a specialist in medicine-related courses – whether the student is looking at medicine, veterinary medicine or dentistry – we have someone who can help them plan for university applications and interviews, preparing them for what working in medicine is actually like.
“These days, the top universities want more than academic excellence, they want someone who will add value to the community. Five A* at A-level is fantastic but it’s not enough on its own, they are also looking for wider interests and better preparation for life after school. Personal development of children is something that is quite critical and so our extracurricular programmes include the likes of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.”
The University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge agree that academic excellence, a genuine interest in a chosen subject, the ability to undertake independent research, as well as the capability to think on your feet are key aspects in becoming a successful candidate.
There are a variety of skills and traits that a student is expected to exhibit alongside their academic potential. These skills are developed during the exclusive Oxbridge Preparation Programme at Bosworth, where all students with high academic aspirations get a chance to prepare for university admissions tests, attend weekly workshops with the Oxbridge coordinator, are encouraged to participate in academic challenges and competitions, receive interview preparation with internal and external specialists, as well as having the opportunity to attend ‘Oxford and Cambridge Conference’ and other university workshops.
Oxford and Cambridge are looking for candidates who have dedication, initiative, persistence and the ability to communicate well. While the process may seem challenging, the end result will be a rewarding career in a highly competitive field.
