Employers are often the first to notice when someone is suffering mental health issues – picking up on a change in demeanour or unexplained absences – but how to go about dealing with those concerns is a different matter.
A Mental Health At Work Conference in April is aimed at small business owners, line managers, MDs, CEOs, HR professionals and anyone responsible for people management and aims to raise some of the important aspects of understanding the complexities that mental health presents in the workplace.
Organised by Rebox HR, the conference will offer a wealth of information and practical advice from industry experts and mental health professionals on topics such as building resilience, recording absences correctly, building effective relationships and managing mental health at work from a manager’s perspective.
Speakers on the day include Nick Wilson, Cate Gregory, Adam Cundell, Jonathan Pittam, Ryan Ridgeway, Natalie Ellis from Rebox HR, and writer Holly Matthews.
The event will be held at the Bragborough Hall Business Centre in Braunston on April 26 from 9am to 4.30pm. Costing £75 per person for the standard admission, the day will include networking and coffee on arrival, talks and workshops from experts and keynote speakers, a guided meditation walk through the grounds of Bragborough and lunch. The £85 VIP admission also includes a private coaching sessions with Cate Gregory from Attain Coaching and 30 minutes of HR advice from Rebox HR.
Natalie Ellis HR Consultant and Director of Rebox HR said: “We are finding that whilst more and more people are dealing with mental health issues, managers are feeling out of their depth when trying to support employees. Employers need to do everything they can to make sure everything is in place but it’s all very well having mental health first aiders and the like, but when you are faced with something like this as a business owner it can be very difficult.
“Giving managers the right training and tools to work with allows them to approach the situation with confidence and within the best practices outlined in law.
“The first thing you need to do is to try to help employees, but many of us are concerned that if you go about this in the wrong way, say the wrong things, then you might make matters worse. If you step in, are you interfering? If you don’t say anything, are you failing in your duty?
“Rebox HR moved into Bragborough Hall recently and the fantastic facilities here gave us the idea to organise something, using local speakers and professionals, to help business owners and managers learn more about tackling this subject. We’ve been able to announce Holly Matthews, author of the bestselling The Happy Me Project, as our closing keynote speaker, which we’re very excited about.
“If you employ or manage people, knowing how to tackle mental health issues is vitally important and we’re hoping we’ll be able to share some knowledge and expertise with local businesses to help them and
their employees.”
