Wellingborough School provides children from as young as three, right up to those about to take their first steps into the wider world, with a warm, supportive and challenging environment in which they can flourish.
The main points of entry are Nursery, Reception, Years 3, 7 & Sixth Form, but new joiners are welcome at all entry points, and prospective parents and pupils are welcome at any time to view the facilities, the surroundings and see for themselves what goes on inside Wellingborough School.
The admissions process can seem daunting, and joining a new school at any age is a big moment and that’s why Wellingborough School endeavours to make the process as smooth as possible, from initial contact through to joining.
Entrance exams for the September 2024 entry are coming up in January, so now is the time to register, arrange a visit and find out more about the processes involved to make sure everyone is as prepared as possible.
Briefly, the admissions process is this:
- Make an enquiry – email or call the Admissions Team using the details and link at the end of this article to discuss your child’s education and check availability within the required year group.
- Arrange a visit – A variety of Open Events are held throughout the year to enable prospective parents and pupils to experience Wellingborough School first hand. It is also possible to arrange a private tour on a regular teaching day, and that can be combined with an opportunity to meet the Headmaster or Head of Prep. Contact the Admissions Team for details.
- Register your child – to be eligible to sit the entrance exam, parents will need to complete a registration form and pay a fee. A reference is requested along with a school report from the child’s current school.
- The Entrance Exam – annual Entrance Examinations are held in January for all applicants to Years 7 to 10. These consist of CAT testing, an English paper and Maths test. Entrance testing is also available throughout the year on an ad hoc basis. In the Prep School, applicants complete CAT4 testing and write a short story. For pupils applying for entry into Sixth Form, a place will be offered on the basis of GCSE results.
- Offer and acceptance of a place – if a child passes the Entrance Exam and a satisfactory reference is provided, the child will be offered a place. Parents will be sent an acceptance form to complete and return along with a deposit.
- Induction – if the child is to start at the beginning of the academic year, they will be invited to an induction day in June or July. Sixth Form applicants are invited to a Headstart course in June for taster sessions for their chosen A level options. Each applicant will also receive a New Pupil Pack which includes information in preparation for the first day.
Andrew Holman, Headmaster of Wellingborough School, said:
“Our school has a reputation for providing a robust and challenging academic curriculum that prepares students to move on to the next stage of their education and achieve their career goals. At the same time, we promote ourselves as an all-through school, where everyone has a sense of stability and belonging, and where they feel safe and comfortable.
“Wellingborough School pupils are confident young people who strive for success in everything they do, imbued with the skills they need to help them navigate the world in which they find themselves when they leave our walls.”
Jackie Cliffe, Admissions, Marketing and Enterprise Manager, added:
“Everyone at Wellingborough School wishes for prospective parents and pupils to fully understand the environment and ethos before committing, so we encourage you to get to know as much as possible before making that all-important decision of where to send your child to school.
“There’s abundant information on the website, including newsletters and inspection reports that offer an insight into what Wellingborough School is all about, but the most important thing is come along and see for yourselves, and speak to us about the admissions process and how we can make it as smooth as possible to eventually welcome your child into Wellingborough School.”
