Most of the time, the team at Midshires Electrical and Lighting is focused on making life as simple as possible for its clients – but not always!
Last month, Midshires Managing Director Ben Fountain talked a group of colleagues, friends, customers and suppliers into joining him for a special challenge, one that saw a group of 12 undertake a four-day, 80km hike through the Andalusian mountains in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
Ben said:
“It’s something that is very close to my heart, I lost my father to heart disease during Covid, so doing this meant a lot to me. I’m obviously very grateful to everyone who joined in and did the challenge with me.
“We did some big climbs, some of them higher than Scafell, and we were doing something like four climbs per day. It was pretty gruelling – I’m still hurting now in various places – but it was a fantastic experience.”
Midshires Electrical and Lighting has been operating in Northampton for 20 years now and partners with customers in the corporate, housing and construction sectors to advise and guide as to the best products and supplies on the market.
Since it launched in 2003 with a team of four, Midshires, which is based in Hartburn Close, on the Crow Lane Industrial Estate, has grown steadily to a team of 32 and a turnover of £13m last year.
Throughout its history, the company has been keen to support local charities and good causes and the Andalusian trip was just another in a long list of events, donations and annual initiatives aimed at putting something back into the community.
During the Andalusia expedition, two expert guides from international travel consultant John Keo Walking Tours in Nerja, led the party on the four-day trek.
“It was an amazing thing to be a part of and people have been very generous,” said Ben. “We initially set a fundraising target of £3,000 but we’ve been able to hand over a cheque for £7,300 to the British Heart Foundation – which is so much more than I ever expected, and there may be more to come.
“I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us, those in the group and those who’ve donated, I’m absolutely delighted with what we’ve achieved.”
