A rainbow of colours will mark a fun family day out

Next month will see one of the most colourful and fun days in the charity calendar, when runners of all ages can play their part in raising funds to help bereaved children across the Milton Keynes region.

Organised by Harry’s Rainbow, the Colour Run and Family Fun Day is open to anyone of any age, and as well as a one-mile run, walk or toddle, there will be stalls and activities throughout the afternoon to keep the whole family entertained.

The event, which has proved popular over the years with everyone from babies in pushchairs to active grandparents, will be held at the Wolverton Recreation Ground on Saturday, June 15 between noon and 4pm. Tickets are £8 for a single ticket or £28 for a family of four and anyone raising over £100 will receive a goody bag and there will be a special prize for the highest amount raised.

Harry’s Rainbow was founded by Odette Mould after the death of her five-year-old son Harry in 2009, and raises money to support children and young people who have lost a parent or sibling. Harry was a twin, and the Colour Run started when his sister Jessica came up with the idea as something she could do in memory of Harry.

The event began as a one-mile run around the grounds of the church where Harry is buried, but moved to Wolverton as it grew in size and over the past couple of years has become a Colour Run, with stalls, food and refreshments and activities in addition to the run. Odette said:

“There’s also a half-mile version for those who prefer, and the marked course has marshals and is set out so that parents can always see their children so the slightly older ones can do it on their own if they want to, but it’s also a fantastic event for the whole family to get involved. There’s also a non-colour route for those who prefer.”

All runners will receive one of the new eco-friendly medals that have been designed for this year’s event. There are opportunities to showcase any business partners on the medal ribbons and race numbers, or at strategic points around the course. Any businesses that wants to get involved in this community event should contact the organisers via the Harry’s Rainbow website. Odette said:

“There’s still time left if any local business can help us,”

“Patisserie firm Brioche Pasquier and The Good Gym MK have already stepped in as partners, and we hope more local businesses will take this opportunity to support such a good cause.

“The Colour Run has become a firm fixture on our calendar and raises money to help children dealing with loss, so the more people we can get involved and the more we can raise, the more we can do to help.”
