Safe and secure overnight parking facilities

EFM Distribution is a well-known, long-established and highly reputable haulage company based in Daventry.

Founded in 2005 by Managing Director, Phil Minney, EFM is proud to be a family owned and operated business. After being situated in Northampton for 19 years, the company moved to its new site on High March Industrial Estate at the start of this year, a move that has given the company the space and opportunity to grow exponentially. With that, it has now expanded its services and been able to provide truck-stop parking facilities for visiting HGV drivers, from both domestic operators and those from overseas.

In response to increasing demand for safe and convenient parking options for HGV drivers, EFM Distribution has set its yard up to facilitate guests’ needs on a 24/7 basis. The parking area is equipped with multiple security features, including surveillance cameras, lighting covering the entire yard, and on-site security personnel, ensuring the safety and security of vehicles, their contents and, of course, the owners and drivers.

Additionally, EFM has installed toilets, showers and clothes washing facilities, further enhancing the services on offer, and guests can enjoy free wi-fi whilst relaxing in the dedicated drivers’ cabin that also has a TV, dart board and sofas. In addition to these features there are facilities for drivers to make hot drinks and heat up food at their own convenience.

As the company is situated within close proximity to the M1, M6, and A5, it is perfectly located for ease of access to the country’s main arterial routes for national and local deliveries, which means that it is in a great spot for drivers to travel to the yard for their overnight stay without large detours or delays.

The aim is to make work safer and more comfortable for long-distance lorry drivers. There are huge levels of risk associated to HGVs that are parked on the side of roads. Criminals are well known for targeting these vehicles and regularly there are reports of the curtains being slashed on the side of trailers to allow criminals to gain access to the contents (before parking alongside the vehicle to help themselves to goods) or, more frequently, diesel is syphoned from the tanks of a driver’s unit whilst they are sleeping.

“We love having drivers parking with us each day, it gives us an opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. It’s particularly great when the football is on the TV and the drivers congregate in the cabin, there is a real sense of community. We have had amazing feedback from drivers which gives us motivation to continue investing in our parking area and facilities to ensure we are providing a top-class service.”

Access and pricing

The majority of drivers book their stay on the SNAP parking app, developed to alleviate the European parking shortage without having to develop new purpose-built HGV parking sites. The service is currently used by over 185,000 truckers, and covers over 600,000 truck spaces across the United Kingdom and Europe.

The app allows real-time information on space availability, and facilities available at the sites. Additionally, if a driver or fleet operator is not a member of SNAP they can book in and pay directly by calling the office.

Longer term storage options are also available with weekly and monthly permits available for frequent users at an agreed rate, while occasional users can pay on a per-night basis.

Once the drivers have secured their booking, they simply need to arrive at EFM, go into the reception area where they will be checked in and shown where to park and how to gain access to the available facilities.

Other services

As well as providing secure parking for HGV drivers, the company also accepts parking requirements for trailers, cars, vans and plant machinery on a short or long-term basis, so drivers can feel secure in the knowledge that their property is on a site that is secure and manned on a 24/7 basis.
