Business is blooming for a Northamptonshire home-grown florist who has entrepreneurial roots that stem from a hospitality and horticultural heritage.
Georgina Gordon, who is part of the family behind the successful Greedy Gordons group of award-winning pubs and venues in the county, has launched her new business, Eden Bespoke Services, specialising in beautiful blooms, bouquets, wedding flowers and floral displays for corporate clients.
Georgina’s floral finesse has been inspired by generations of family florists, including her grandma, aunt and her mum, which encouraged her to grow her own business.
The launch of her new venture has been toasted by her father, Richard Gordon, Director of Greedy Gordons, who is thrilled his daughter will be showcasing her creative talents and has enlisted her to provide bespoke bouquets for discerning diners celebrating Valentine’s Day at their popular pubs this February.
Award-winning businessman Richard has commissioned Georgina to provide floral decorations and centrepieces on a regular basis at all the Greedy Gordons venues including their pub portfolio, the Snooty Fox in Lowick, The Red Lion in Cranford and The Pig & Waffle in Grafton Underwood.
Richard said:
“It’s amazing, I’m so incredibly proud of Georgina, she has always been very creative and artistic and her new business is the perfect way to showcase her many talents.
“We want to support her in her new venture and Greedy Gordons is delighted Georgina will be providing all our beautiful, bespoke bouquets and flowers for our Valentine’s events and creating floral displays at our pubs every week.”
Bride-to-be Georgina, who is planning her own nuptials this summer, was looking for floral options for her big day when she decided to organise and arrange her own wedding flowers. Her floral favourites, white hydrangeas, will feature in her wedding flowers alongside white roses and gypsophila.
She will be joined by her mum, Tamica, to create the perfect floral arrangements for her special day and revealed that organising her own wedding flowers inspired her to start her new business.
Georgina, who has converted her garage at her Northampton home to accommodate her new workspace and floral studio, said she is excited about the launch of her new company, admitting the entrepreneurial streak runs in the family.
Georgina said:
“Clearly it does – having worked with my dad for the past three years at Greedy Gordons, it’s rubbed off on me. My mum has been a massive influence for me as well. She’s always been into flowers, has allotments where she grows different flowers and has a really creative side. She’s been helping me get my business started and will be on hand to support me.”
Having worked in hospitality since the age of 14, Georgina reached general management level with a large hospitality company before deciding to go back to her roots and join the family business, Greedy Gordons, where she works as Operations Manager.
As hospitality has always been in the blood, Georgina will continue in her role with Greedy Gordons, alongside dedicating more time to her new business at it blooms.
She said:
“Remaining part of the family business while I grow my own business is ideal as it means I can keep the love that I have for hospitality without having to leave altogether.”
Georgina has been surrounded by beautiful blooms and talented family florists from a young age. Some of her earliest childhood memories are of her grandma and aunt (Richard’s mother and sister) flower arranging.
“My dad’s mum had her own flowers company with my auntie when I was little, so it was something I have grown up with, as well as hospitality, it has always been in the family. It’s definitely rubbed off on me personally in my life, including how I decorate my home and when buying flowers for my garden.
“My early memories include going with my grandma to her workshop and attending events, like the local Christmas tree festival or the flower festival at the church across the road from my primary school, which my grandma would help decorate.”
Green-fingered Georgina admitted there’s a creative crossover of her hospitality skills and having an eye for artistic aesthetics, something she sees as key to delighting customers and clients.
She said:
“When you’re presented with beautiful food on a plate it makes all the difference – that’s the first thing you see before you’ve even tasted the dish.
“Through Eden Bespoke Services we will be offering hand-tied bouquets and are focusing on monthly subscriptions, which have become very popular online. However, you don’t have that direct contact with a florist, as you would through my business. The online offering means people have to condition the flowers themselves strip the leaves and then arrange everything, whereas we are offering flowers that have been conditioned, are already beautifully presented, and delivered hand-tied. You simply place the pre-arranged bouquet into your vase of water – everything is done for you. We can provide regular deliveries to homes and we can expand that same service to corporate venues, workspaces, pubs and hotels.”
Georgina will be busy creating bespoke bouquets, which can be pre-ordered to arrive at the table when diners book their Valentine’s meal at The Red Lion or The Snooty Fox, which will offer set menus on February 13 and 14.
Love is in the air at The Snooty Fox on February 11 when the pub will be hosting a Valentine’s Wine Tasting event where guests can enjoy wines with food pairings plus dessert wine and chocolate. The exclusive event costs £35 a head and includes a complimentary bottle of bubbles to take home.
