Colourful event will be bigger than ever

Harry’s Rainbow will be adding a splash of colour to Milton Keynes Rugby Club at Emerson Valley later this year when one of its key events moves to a new, bigger home.

The Colour Run, where families, friends and individuals can complete a half-mile or one-mile course being showered with colour, is held each year to mark the anniversary of the loss of Harry Mould, who died aged just five in 2009. Harry’s twin sister, Jessica, originally came up with the idea of a run that she could help organise in memory of her brother, and the event has grown over the years into a fun day out for all the family.

With numbers likely to be higher than ever this year, the charity, which supports children who have lost a loved one, decided to move from Wolverton Recreation Ground to the new venue. The rugby club has more space, and more parking spaces, as well as indoor toilet facilities and a bar and inside space in case of bad weather.

Participants can walk, run, toddle or even be pushed round – all in an effort to raise money for a worthy cause and, as well as the fully martialled running events, which also include a non-colour route for those who don’t want to be sprayed, there will be food and drink stalls, arts and crafts and other activities.

Alison Johnson, Fundraising and Events Manager at Harry’s Rainbow, said: “The Colour Run has grown and grown over the years, so we felt we needed a new home to allow as many people to take part as possible.

“We’ve once again had generous sponsorship from Brioche Pasquier and The Good Gym MK, but we’re also looking for sponsors, particularly for the colour stations. All the colour stations are different colours, and sponsors can choose a colour to reflect their own branding if they want to. They’ll also have a banner at the colour station with their logo and branding on it.

“It’s a great, colourful way to get involved in a lovely, family event.”

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, June 13 and runners of all ages and abilities are invited to take part. Tickets are now on sale and the prices have been frozen from last year. There are special early bird prices for those buying tickets before Sunday, February 8. Tickets bought before then will be £7 per person or £30 for a family of five; after February 8, it will be £8 per ticket and £35 for a family of five.

Anyone raising £100 in sponsorship will receive a goody bag and a Harry The Hound toy, and the person raising the most money will win a gift voucher.
