Joined-up thinking on all aspects of roofing

Modern construction often involves a combination of the contemporary and traditional, and Kingsley Roofing & Solar offers a suite of services designed to meet the evolving demands of clients.

At a time when carbon footprint reduction and net zero targets are no longer optional but integral to property development strategy, in new-builds or renovations, the Northamptonshire company provides a joined-up portfolio for anything from installing or renovating a roof, to adding renewable energy generation solutions and the technology that delivers efficiency from them.

Kingsley Roofing & Solar has built a strong regional reputation for quality and reliability over the past ten years. Founded by Managing Director Paul Bone, the business has established itself as a specialist in installing, replacing and maintaining roofing systems across a wide range of commercial premises, including warehouses, office blocks and public buildings. The majority of its work is focused on commercial new-build projects and complete roof refurbishments, encompassing lead work, flat roofing systems and pitched roofs.

Complementary services such as fascia and guttering installation ensure clients can rely on a single contractor for comprehensive building envelope solutions.

For clients, what is often key is the firm’s commitment to transparency and efficiency through technology. State-of-the-art project management software provides clients with real-time, remote access to progress updates via an app or website, including up-to-date photographs. This gives building owners, developers and facilities managers confidence, clarity and control throughout the lifecycle of a project.

Over the past few years, Kingsley Roofing & Solar’s expansion into solar panel installation has been a strategic and natural evolution of its core roofing expertise. Around three years ago, discussions between Paul Bone and contracts manager Dale Dexeter – who brought prior experience from the electrical sector – highlighted the opportunity to integrate renewable energy services with roofing works. Dale, now a Director, and Paul worked together to deliver additional value for clients through a combined offering.

Paul Bone said: “Solar panel installation aligns perfectly with roofing, not least because the condition of the roof is fundamental to the long-term performance of any solar installation. As roofing specialists, we are able to assess, repair or replace roof structures before panels are installed, ensuring the roof beneath the system is sound from the outset. This mitigates the risk of future failures, protects the financial return on investment and removes the uncertainty that can arise when solar installations are undertaken without in-depth roofing knowledge.

“There are also financial and operational benefits to delivering both elements as a single project. Domestic solar installations are currently VAT-free, meaning that when roofing repairs are undertaken alongside solar works, the entire project can become exempt from VAT. In addition, clients benefit from reduced disruption, simplified project management and cost efficiencies by working with one contractor, one programme and one point of contact, rather than coordinating multiple trades.”

Kingsley Roofing & Solar is accredited under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), providing assurance that all solar installations meet recognised industry standards and are fully warrantied. This accreditation extends to roofing works associated with solar projects, reinforcing the company’s emphasis on quality, compliance and long-term performance.

While roofing projects are predominantly commercial, the business installs solar panels on both commercial and domestic properties. From an investment perspective, solar technology continues to deliver increasingly attractive returns. For buildings with high energy demand, payback periods can be as short as two years, supported by a range of funding and payment schemes designed to help owners and landlords improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.

And innovation remains central to the company’s growth strategy. Last year, Kingsley Roofing & Solar completed its first green roof installation, marking another step forward in its sustainability credentials. Using a sedum-based system for a long-standing client, the company installed a green roof that provides thermal insulation, helps regulate internal temperatures and creates a living ecosystem that enhances biodiversity, improves air quality and attracts wildlife. Beyond the environmental benefits, green roofs also contribute to building longevity and visual appeal, aligning sustainability with asset value.

The company has also shown how it is leading the way in technology advances, having identified and installed advanced solar technology to a complex residential development.

Paul said: “We landed a contract to supply and install a solar array for a new block of flats in Birmingham, and we were made aware some flats were struggling to meet sustainability targets. We investigated what was available and proposed and installed a SolShare system, which is a solar PV sharing technology that enables a single rooftop array to distribute energy fairly across multiple apartments. The system provides detailed monitoring for each flat, ensuring performance, transparency and compliance with green building standards.”

Through continuous learning and making a point of gaining a clear understanding of its clients’ priorities, Kingsley Roofing & Solar has positioned itself at the forefront of not only construction but also renewable energy and sustainability. By integrating roofing, solar and green roof solutions, the company is helping to create, and to futureproof buildings, while at the same time helping clients meet regulatory requirements, reduce carbon emissions and optimise financial and environmental returns.
