The Lewis Foundation and Northampton Town FC Community Trust are teaming up for their first Walk to Remember in Northampton.
The walk, taking place at Upton Country Park on July 11, will be accessible to all, with the aim of creating a safe and active way to remember loved ones, family members and friends who have passed away.
Lorraine Lewis, CEO of The Lewis Foundation, said: “This walk is about bringing people together to remember loved ones, share stories and show support for one another. At The Lewis Foundation, we see every day how important compassion and kindness are for people facing difficult times, and we’re incredibly proud to be partnering with NTFC Community Trust on an event that reflects those values so strongly.
“We hope the community will join us this July to walk in memory, in support and in solidarity with families across Northamptonshire.”
Founded by Lorraine and Lee Lewis, The Lewis Foundation delivers around 2,000 gift packs each month to 17 hospitals. The packs include essentials, such as toiletries and underwear, and non-essentials such as books, headphones and craft sets for individuals diagnosed with any cancer, from newly diagnosed to end of life care, and which they might find difficult to access themselves, or which they may not be able to afford.
Even those who are being treated as out-patients have a range of gifts to choose from each time they visit the hospital for treatment or an appointment.
Danny Brothers, Fundraising and Events Manager at NTFC Community Trust, saw first-hand the impact of The Lewis Foundation’s work when his father, Graham, was in hospital receiving cancer treatment and he received some of the special hospital packs that the charity puts together.
It inspired him to work with Lorraine and the team on this walk and he said: “The Lewis Foundation helps so many people across Northamptonshire and we’re proud to link up with them for the Walk To Remember.
“At NTFC Community Trust, one of our key missions is to expand the impact of community work across Northamptonshire in the name of the football club. Dad was a huge Cobblers fan so this will be an ideal chance to remember him as well as many, many other fans and friends we’ve lost. We hope this will be a fantastic tribute to so many.”
The walk will begin at 11.30am (registration from 10.45am) and will be followed by a family fun event at the park and inside the Elgar Centre, with all money raised through registrations and sponsorship to be split between the two charities.
All participants will receive a free clip-on name sheet for the front of their shirt, on which they can add the name of the person in whose memory they’re walking.
