Bringing businesses, families and communities together for local children

More than 160 cyclists of all ages and abilities came together last month for Ride MK, Ride High’s annual cycling festival that raises vital funds and awareness for vulnerable and disadvantaged children across Milton Keynes.

Held in glorious sunshine on Sunday June14, the event welcomed a record 161 participants who collectively cycled 7,150 kilometres across four routes. From the challenging 100km and 50km road rides to the accessible 25km Redway route and the children’s Ready Set Go! ride, the festival offered something for everyone. The youngest participant was just one year old.

While fundraising remains a vital part of Ride MK, the event is about much more. Every participant helps to raise awareness of Ride High’s work supporting local children through horse-assisted learning and equine activities. By bringing new people to the charity, Ride MK creates opportunities for individuals, families and businesses to learn more about the services available and the difference they make within the Milton Keynes community.

The event’s inclusive nature continues to be one of its greatest strengths. Families cycled together, experienced riders tested themselves on longer routes, and local businesses entered teams to enjoy a shared challenge while supporting a local cause. The day demonstrated how community events can unite people from different backgrounds around a common goal.

For businesses, Ride MK provides a unique opportunity to combine team building, employee wellbeing and social impact. Corporate involvement extended far beyond participation on the day. In the days leading up to the event, colleagues from SEAT CUPRA at Volkswagen Milton Keynes and DoTERRA volunteered through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) days, helping prepare the Ride High site and supporting event logistics. Their contribution formed part of a much wider volunteer effort that helped ensure the festival ran smoothly from start to finish.

On event day, an outstanding team of volunteers supported every aspect of the operation, from registration and route marshalling to refreshments and participant support. Their enthusiasm and commitment played a significant role in creating such a welcoming atmosphere.

Ride High also thanked event sponsors SIS, Brioche Pasquier, Bailey MK and Cranswick Convenience Foods, whose support helped make the festival possible. Additional thanks went to Trek Milton Keynes and Nimlok for their valued contribution.

Following Ride MK, Ride High hosted a volunteer celebration event, marking the culmination of the charity’s activities recognising Volunteers’ Week. Long-service certificates and badges were presented, alongside special recognition awards celebrating exceptional commitment and service.

As Ride MK continues to grow, Ride High is keen to build on this year’s success and engage even more local businesses, volunteers and participants in 2027. Whether through sponsorship, volunteering, entering a corporate team or encouraging employees to take part, there are many ways for organisations to support an event that delivers lasting benefits for children and young people across Milton Keynes.

Because while the cycling festival may last for just one day, its impact is felt throughout the year in the lives of the children and families Ride High supports.
