Earlier this year, Bosworth Independent College changed its name to Bosworth Independent School to reflect its new identity as a true independent secondary school covering years 7 to 13, and ages 11 to 19.
When Jason Lewis joined Bosworth as its Headmaster almost three years ago, he set a new direction for the school – to develop the student experience and have a renewed focus on welcoming local students to enhance its rich multi-cultural learning environment.
With outstanding academic results, Bosworth is known in the area for its high percentage of international students and for its reputation for preparing its students for the best universities in the country.
With that solid foundation to build on, the school has taken great strides in a short time and in what is perhaps its most significant move yet, it is preparing to welcome children from Years 7 and 8 for the first time in September.
Until this year, student entry had been from age 14 with the focus on GCSEs and A Levels, but Jason Lewis knew that his ambition to see Bosworth grow as one of the best-regarded independent schools in Northampton meant the earlier students joined the better.
“When I first came to Bosworth we were thought of as an international Sixth Form college,” he said. “We are proud to have over 30 nationalities represented among our students, but it’s also a fact that 30% of them are British and many are local.
“We have a great academic record to shout about, and I want parents and students to know about it. By introducing years 7 and 8, children leaving primary school will be able to start their secondary journey with us, and progress to a top university as so many of our alumni have in the past.”
Last year, Bosworth Independent School moved the majority of its students and teaching staff into the Newton Building on St George’s Avenue, formerly part of the University of Northampton campus after being built as part of the Girls’ Grammar School in 1915. Retaining all of its original features, the move is another way the school has transformed in the past three years.
Along with the move to its new home, the school has enriched the student experience by introducing a number of extracurricular and sporting activities, including rugby, football, cricket, hockey, Duke of Edinburgh Award, London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art qualifications (LAMDA) and many more.

“Moving to the Newton Building has given the students a fantastic learning environment. It’s a beautiful building and just feels like a very special place to come and learn.
“The addition of new, purpose-built science laboratories, along with the new emphasis on sports facilities and performing arts – is all part of an offering that will appeal to parents looking at options for their children about to move on to secondary school.
