A knockout charity success

A local car salesman has bravely swapped the showroom for the ring to raise money for charity.

Indi Dhassi, 24, from Kettering works in the sales department at Croyland. But for the past couple months, he’s also been training to fight in his second Ultra White Collar Boxing event. Following his thrilling fight, Indi was able to raise hundreds of pounds for Khalsa Aid International.

Indi grew up loving boxing, and as a child would avidly watch sporting legends go toe to toe. In 2023, he decided to pick up the gloves and compete in his first UWCB boxing fundraiser. Ever since, he’s been keen to get back in the ring, and this year has returned to compete in the UWCB heavy-weight division.

Rushden-based business Croyland pledged their support for their colleague, giving him a fighting chance to compete by boosting his fundraising total with a donation of £150.

Reflecting on the fight, Indi said: “The event went really well. It went so fast, the night was like a blur. It was kind of a hectic, and I just went with the motions. But everything went as planned and I got the job done!”

Indi was the seventh fight of the night and said it was a great lineup of fighters. As well as an astounding victory in his fight, he has managed to raise over £250 for charity.

Indi was inspired to join the fundraiser to improve his fitness and get back into doing something he loves while supporting a good cause. His gruelling training regimen included two boxing sessions a week at Hale Training gym over the eight week UWCB programme. Alongside this, he also trained with his close friend and amateur boxer Barfour Kyei at his gym, the Corby Olympic Amateur Boxing Club.

Both of Indi’s fights have been in support of Khalsa Aid International, a humanitarian charity which provides aid in disaster areas and civil conflict zones worldwide. Indi said: “this is a charity that I’ve grown up caring about. I was raised in a Punjabi Sikh household, and the Khalsa Aid really helps out when people are struggling to get food and water.”

Indi has been very grateful to Croyland for their encouragement: “They were one of my first donations. So, it kind of kickstarted my whole page. Thanks to their generosity I was able to raise even more money for charity. It really makes a big difference.”

Croyland also commandeered a table of ten staff members who went and cheered Indi on at the ringside. He’s been very grateful to the dealership for all their incredible support.

Currently Indi has no plans to hang up the gloves: “As soon as I got out of that ring on Saturday, I wanted to get straight back in. I’ll be signing up for the next show that UWCB do.” Indi will be sure to bob and weave his way to another amazing achievement.
