Last year, Crisis Logistics of Hannington acquired Action Express Northampton, a parcel and pallet company on Brackmills Industrial Estate.
This move was followed in September by a major rebrand and name change to Xtra Express Logistics.
Syed Ziaullah, who established Action Express Northampton in 1982, now sits on the board of directors at Xtra Express Logistics alongside chairman of Crisis Logistics, Charles Grant-Salmon, managing director Edward Grant-Salmon and operations director Roman Stajila.
At the time of the rebrand, Edward Grant-Salmon said:
“Crisis started life in 1998 as a same-day delivery service that you called in a crisis. As the business evolved and grew, we were aware that the name – although a well-established and respected brand – didn’t quite fit who we were and what we offered as a business anymore.
“Our new name demonstrates that we can provide extra services to both Crisis Logistics and Action Express Northampton customers whilst retaining the combined 60 years of knowledge and experience. We have also been told for years by our customers that the reason they keep coming back to us is because we go that extra mile for them, so the name just works and fits us so much better as a business.”
Now, a year on from the acquisition and nine months since the rebrand, the company is celebrating its success with the release of strong year-end financials which include a £30m turnover and 25% increase in sales for the Brackmills site.
Edward said:
“The acquisition of Action Express Logistics is one of the most positive business decisions we have made in years. We’re extremely happy with the way things are going, and to have achieved the figures we have, despite the costs of the acquisition and rebrand and the unsettled economy, is phenomenal. We’ve also had some amazing feedback on the new branding.”
In the last 12 months, Xtra Express Logistics has also increased its sales team from one person to four, secured new contracts worth £2.5m and grown its fleet of vehicles. The company also made the Northamptonshire Limited 2023 list, appearing as number 79 in the list of Northamptonshire’s Top 100 Companies, compiled by Grant Thornton.
Looking ahead to the future, Edward said:
“We pride ourselves on being the very best in class when it comes to customer service and I am proud to say that has not changed. Both businesses have come together to offer our customers a wider range of services. We can now off er everything from small vans to articulated lorries which travel across the UK and internationally. We offer chilled contract logistics and medical deliveries, as well as parcels and pallets through our partnerships with APC and Pallet-Track – a true one-stop shop.
“Now we want to make a real push on sales with our new sales team and are in the process of updating the curtains on our lorries, switching them over to the new branding. We look forward to seeing them travelling up and down the UK promoting the Xtra Express Logistics brand further.”
