In the midst of a cold, grey winter, it’s nice to look forward to some colourful summer fun – so it’s perfect timing for the charity, Harry’s Rainbow, to announce that entries are open for its annual Colour Run.
The Colour Run and Family Fun Day has become a firm fixture on the children’s bereavement charity’s calendar. This year’s event will take place at the Wolverton Recreation Ground on Saturday, June 7 and runners of all ages and abilities are invited to take part.
There will be two courses, a half-mile route and a one-mile route, and participants can walk, run, toddle or even be pushed round – all in an effort to raise money for a worthy cause.
Founded in memory of Harry Mould, who died aged just five in 2009, Harry’s Rainbow supports children who have lost a sibling or parent. Harry’s twin sister, Jessica, came up with the idea of the Colour Run as something she could do to help the charity during its early years.
The event was first held in the grounds of the church where Harry is buried but as numbers increased and more space was needed, it moved to Wolverton where, last year, it sold out.
Over the years, the Colour Run and Family Fun Day has grown to include stalls, food and refreshments and activities for all the family. Sponsors this year include Brioche Pasquier and The Good Gym MK, while businesses can sponsor one of the colour stations around the course, from which those taking part are showered with a rainbow of colours. There is a non-colour option for those that prefer.
Alison Johnson, Fundraising and Events Manager at Harry’s Rainbow, said:
“Sponsoring the colour stations is a new idea and sponsors can choose their colour, perhaps based on their company branding, if it’s available, and there are are plenty of colour options still available. The sponsors, like Parker, who have already agreed to join us, will be able to display their own banners and company logos at the colour station in return for their valuable support.”
Entry to the run costs £8 per person or £35 for a family of five, and the fun starts at midday. All those taking part will receive a running number, water, a brioche roll from Brioche Pasquier and a finisher’s medal. Anyone raising £100 in sponsorship will receive a goody bag and a Harry The Hound toy, and the person raising the most money will win a gift voucher.
Alison added:
“It’s a really fun day and the route is carefully marked out and marshalled and in full view for parents, so if they’re old enough, children can take part on their own or with friends or siblings. This has grown into something really special for us, and we’re hoping more businesses will be able to support us to make it another fantastic event.”
