A five-strong team from Northamptonshire’s much-loved charity, Cynthia Spencer Hospice have put their best foot forward and signed up for The Amazing Northampton Run on 14th September.
The charity’s digital marketing assistant Ellie Sayers, finance administrator Peter Howard, Big Charity Shop retail assistant Matthew Savings will run the half marathon together as a relay team after being inspired by one of the hospice’s fundraisers.
Corporate partnerships fundraising lead Nina Gandy and community and events fundraiser lead Michelle Morris are both keen runners and will complete the full half marathon individually.
The quintet is urging supporters of the hospice to be part of the action by signing up to run with them, cheering along on the sidelines at the event or helping to hit the fundraising target with a donation.
The Amazing Northampton Run is a 13.1 mile loop around England’s largest town, starting at the historic Market Square, following the river past Northampton’s three main sporting grounds: Sixfields Stadium (football), Franklin’s Gardens (rugby) and The County Ground (cricket), through two beautiful parks, passing through the modern University campus and returning to the Market Square.
There are 12 other runners also taking part in the event in aid of Cynthia Spencer Hospice, and Steve Harrison from Optimum Sports Massage is donating his time to support the CSH runners with sports massage therapy where needed.
One of the competitors is Trevor Hardwell, who will be Cynthia Spencer Hospice’s oldest runner at the age of 75.
Trevor recently completed The Paula Radcliffe Marathon Workshop, a full-day event at Loughborough University, where runners train with marathon legend Paula Radcliffe and the New Levels Coaching team to learn about fuelling, nutrition, recovery, and performance hacks for their best marathon yet.
Trevor also ran the half marathon for Cynthia Spencer Hospice last year and hit a personal best.
Michelle said: “This year we’re going big! To have five members of the Cynthia Spencer Hospice team running together is really special and with 17 of us in total running for our amazing charity, I hope this means we can raise a fantastic amount of money to help our local community.
“Thank you so much to everyone who is taking part and also to Steve who is kindly giving up his Sunday to be on hand for our team. I hope lots of people will come along and cheer us on during the race and if you want to join in, there’s still time to sign up!”
