With Jon Brady’s side very much in the mix for promotion, or at least a playoff place, with just two games left to play at the time of writing, these are exciting times to be a Cobbler!
On May 1, the day after the last home game, the club’s end of season dinner, sponsored by In Town Automotive, took place, appropriately enough, at the County Ground where the club spent the first 97 years of its existence. The event marked the achievements over the 2021/22 season of the academy, the first team, the disability squads, the Football & Education programme, Northampton Town Women, and the club’s work in the community.
The club’s work in the local community continues and the Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire visited Sixfields recently to discover more about that work.
The visit came about after the Northampton Town Community Trust was awarded the Rose of Northamptonshire award for work carried out supporting the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Northampton Town joined football clubs across the country in April to welcome refugees and people seeking asylum as part of Amnesty International’s Football Welcomes campaign. Now in its fifth year, Football Welcomes celebrates the contribution players from a refugee background make to the game and highlights the role football can play in bringing people together and creating more welcoming communities for refugees.
The Northampton Town Community Trust works in partnership with youth group Learn2Live, part of Northampton Town of Sanctuary and the University of Northampton Student Action for Refugees (UoN STAR). Participants from the group attended football coaching sessions with community coach Tom Sherratt last year, as well as taking part in a charity football match against a local team.
To mark the month, which was supported by the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, the Northampton Town Community Trust invited the youth group to enjoy a stadium tour at Sixfields as well as complimentary tickets to the recent match with Bradford City. The group also had the opportunity to play on the pitch at half time.
Anna Letts, NTFC Community Trust’s Inclusion Officer said: “It has been fantastic to welcome this group again and continue our partnership with Learn2Live. The young people enjoyed their stadium tour and we hope they enjoyed the game.”
