An exciting opportunity to learn from professionals

Blues Foundation has announced the launch of an exciting new partnership with Chiltern Learning Trust that sees the community rugby team lead the ‘rugby hub’ at Cedars Upper School.

The team will develop rugby talent within the trust, focusing on Cedars Upper School students initially, with the intention to support the growth of rugby across all schools associated to Chiltern Learning Trust.

The trust aims to provide high-quality learning experiences for across all of their schools that sit underneath the Chiltern Learning Trust umbrella, spanning pupils across Bedfordshire and its teacher training centres.

This is an exciting new project for the charitable arm of Bedford Blues, providing high-quality rugby coaching and team management for the trust throughout this season. It sees performance coaching extend from Bedford Modern School and the University of Bedfordshire into new areas of the county.

The partnership will see players from the Cedars rugby hub and across the trust visit Goldington Road, the home of Bedford Blues, throughout the season and experience matchday activities, as well as opportunities to learn from professional players.

Head of Foundation, Tom Harwood said: “Chiltern Learning Trust have ambitious plans for their rugby delivery over the next few seasons and we are excited to be a part of it. Bedford Blues are the premier rugby club in the county and are delighted to be able to offer this support to talented local rugby players.”

Steve Tingey from Chiltern Learning Trust said: “Blues Foundation has a proven track record of delivering high-quality rugby coaching and support within Bedfordshire. It is an exciting opportunity for our students to improve their rugby skills and enjoy the match day experiences at a professional club. Tom and his team have made a really positive start at Cedars and we hope to provide this support across all our schools throughout the 2023/24 season.”

Blues Foundation has already worked with schools across the trust, delivering the Tackle LIFE intervention programme at Kempston Academy, as well as providing curriculum tag rugby across schools in Dunstable and Houghton Regis.
