The Webber Independent School will help ease the transition from secondary education to further education or career pathways (such as apprenticeships), taking away the fear by using the right guidance. The specially designed Webber work-related learning support programme has seen past students secure top career apprenticeships with leading global employers and transition smoothly to Sixth Form settings or colleges. In the last four years, all of the school’s Year 11 students have received multiple Sixth Form and post-16 destination offers and the vast majority have accepted their first choice during their interviews, proving the training of the dedicated staff, parents and Headmistress puts The Webber children a step ahead.
In 2023 The Webber students excelled in their applications to the Royal Latin School Sixth Form. Competition for places there is incredibly competitive. The four successful students from the school this year were up against over 300 applicants for 50 places, which is clearly a testament to hard work and efforts of all involved. The Work-Related Learning Specialist Team is available to help a child stand out from the crowd; supporting with interview practice, work internships, career pathway guidance, and Headmistress’ letters of recommendation. Each child begins their pathway support in the September term of their final year, with listings of open days at the schools/colleges the students have identified as aspirational. Followed by career path evenings and one-to-one discussions with the Enterprise Leadership team.
Students attend at least two mock interviews with the Headmistress, Hilary Marsden and the Webber Team to help really understand what an interviewer is looking for, including how to make the best first impression, how best to comfortably answer challenging questions such as ‘Why have you chosen this course/institution?’ and how to stand out from the rest, leaving an all-important first impression oozing with The Webber Edge.
Go To Work With An Adult Day for Year 5 to 9, Work Experience Week with employer feedback for Year 10, and Internships at Year 11 engage a through-school approach to develop leadership skill sets. Psychometric testing, My Career Choices and specialist feedback for students and their family all contribute to a well-rounded learning experience for the ‘real world’.
Building and instilling in the students a self-belief and motivation as well as their excellent grades the Work-Related Learning programme also helps students increase their readiness and confidence to work. Through guided classes the school aims to help the students identify their key strengths, unique selling points, skills and abilities as well as reflect and explore future career choices.
