Blues Foundation are delighted to have received the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire Award for ‘outstanding service to the community in Bedfordshire’ during the pandemic.
Presented by the departing High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, Susan Lousada, at Goldington Road, this award is to recognise the work completed by Blues Foundation in support of the local community including the Digital Device Appeal, Meals for the Vulnerable and Activity Programmes across Bedfordshire.
Launched in January, the Digital Device Appeal, championed by the High Sheriff, aimed to tackle the digital divide and help children and young people access technology and online learning through the third national lockdown.
Through the campaign, supported by numerous members of the #BluesFamily and Bedfordshire businesses, over 1,800 devices were delivered to vulnerable people and higher education facilities to ensure young people had access to online resources.
Blues Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood, said: “We are humbled to receive the award from the High Sheriff. We were proud to play our part in supporting communities across the county during these difficult and challenging times. The pandemic has affected the lives of everyone, and we hope our support has made a difference locally.”
The Meals for the Vulnerable campaign began nearly a year ago to coincide with the #RunRowRide campaign – the first campaign launched by Blues Foundation back in May 2020. Alongside some further generous donations, close to 5,000 meals have been delivered across the county.
Drop offs have been to places including FACES Bedford, YMCA Bedfordshire, Emmaus Village Carlton and Holman House.
And over Easter holidays, Blues Foundation followed the very latest government advice and the RFU Return to Rugby roadmap to run multi-sport activity camps in Flitwick and Sandy; supporting disadvantaged young people.
Everyone at Blues Foundation is humbled to have received this award from The High Sheriff and look forward to continuing their outreach into the local community moving forward.
