Businesses invited to join new board to drive economic development

Business leaders in Milton Keynes are being invited to apply to join a new board that will advise local authorities on the economic growth and development of the South Midlands area.

Globally recognised businesses with specialisms in technical testing, precision engineering, connected and autonomous vehicles and robotics, digital technologies and artificial intelligence has placed South Midlands at the forefront of the UK’s response to the future of mobility Grand Challenge.

The South Midlands Authorities is seeking up to 15 representatives from growth key sectors including construction, logistics and healthcare, rural representatives and SME representatives.

Members will work closely with the South Midlands Authorities Board and council officers to set strategic direction for the Business Board, including how the board works in partnership with elected members and the South Midlands Authorities Board to implement economic strategy within the region.

Festival announced

The City Council is calling on technology industry experts, creative minds and businesses to take part in its first AI Festival later this year.

The Milton Keynes AI Festival 2024 will be held from October 28 to November 1 and follows on from the UK Government’s AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park last year which saw global leaders attend to discuss the future of AI.

The festival will be an opportunity for businesses to showcase AI work, share insights and engage with a diverse audience determined to make the most of the opportunities presented by modern technologies.

Organisations are now invited to express an interest in hosting events during the week.

Events, conferences, and hackathons will be running across the city, hosted by major organisations including Bletchley Park (where the festival will formally open), The Open University, Connected Places Catapult, Aiimi and His Majesty’s Government Communications Centre (HMGCC) – as well as others to be confirmed. A full programme will be published on the Protospace website closer to the event.

In addition, organisations and businesses are welcome to set up their own fringe events which, while self-funded and separate to the main programme, will be promoted by the City Council to help the organisers find a wide audience.
