Celebrating diversity in the business community

Milton Keynes is a truly brilliant place to live, work and do business. I believe that part of what makes our city so great is its diversity; MK has seen people move from across the country and beyond to start a new life here and that has shaped it into what it is today. It is said that 140 languages are spoken in MK’s schools, including those of every Commonwealth nation, and 30 religions are observed.

It is estimated that people of colour account for around 30% of the city’s population, and this means MK is among one of the most diverse cities in the UK. It is vital that our businesses celebrate this.

Equality, diversity and cohesion are key ingredients in building a diverse, competent workforce and the general wellbeing of Milton Keynes’ communities and its citizens.

Having a workforce that is representative of various backgrounds, skills and experiences will bring countless benefits to an organisation and that is why equality lies at the heart of all that Milton Keynes City Council does. This year, the council is the main sponsor of the Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards (MKBAAs) – and the theme is Celebrating Diversity.

The awards night’s aim is to celebrate the successes of the city’s diverse and ambitious business community and highlight the importance of equality and inclusion. I look forward to attending the MKBAA to celebrate our brilliant local businesses, and all that makes them
so unique.

The Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards will take place on March 23, 2023, and you can find out more on their website.
