Children’s artwork to bring festive cheer to cancer patients

Kingsthorpe Village Primary School has been busy getting creative for charity, with children from the school’s Nurture provision, reception, year one and year two classes producing a colourful collection of artwork for The Lewis Foundation.

The children’s beautiful pictures will be included in some of the gift packs the Northampton charity delivers to adult cancer patients in hospitals between now and Christmas.

Guided by the school’s Art lead, Martine Soldano and their class teachers, the children have spent the last few weeks working thoughtfully on their art projects, with each piece designed to brighten someone’s day. Their creations were proudly showcased to family and friends at a special exhibition held at The Elgar Centre recently to celebrate the children’s creativity and community spirit.

The Lewis Foundation team members Dominique Jones and Emily Griffiths were both very happy to attend the exhibition, supporting the young artists and representing the charity throughout the event.

Lorraine Lewis, CEO and co-founder of The Lewis Foundation, said: “We are incredibly moved by the kindness and creativity shown by the children at Kingsthorpe Village Primary. Their beautiful works of art will brighten the days of so many patients who are facing a tough time, especially in the run up to Christmas. A huge thank-you goes out to all the children and staff involved. It just shows what a huge difference even the youngest members of our community can make.”

Martine Soldano added: “Our children have thrown themselves into this project with such enthusiasm, it’s been really wonderful to see. We are so proud of how hard they’ve worked and it’s lovely to know that their creativity will help to spread a little extra hope and happiness to people who really need it at this time of year.”

With the help of an army of volunteers and hundreds of supporters, The Lewis Foundation hand-delivers over 2,000 gift packs every month to adult cancer patients in 17 hospitals across the region, providing everything from toiletries and radios to comfort items and handwritten messages.
