Podcast popularity is soaring. According to Statista, as of 2021, there were 19.1 million UK podcast listeners, estimating over 28 million listeners by 2026.
Based on those numbers most would agree that podcasts are a train worth jumping on, and that needn’t be by hosting your own. Don’t forget that podcasts need guests. Podcasts without guest speakers are like Laurel without Hardy, just not as entertaining…
Whilst guests on podcasts may initially be perceived as generous volunteers who selflessly give up their time to contribute their expertise to the episode (which they can be) the bottom line for many can be WIIFM – what’s in it for me. Frankly, there is nothing wrong with this mentality, and in answer; plenty.
Power of personification
Firstly, podcasts have the power of personification. They are an intimate affair and give those involved the feeling of a personal atmosphere. However, they still reach thousands of listeners.
The benefit of this is that it can work wonders with personal branding. Listeners feel like they know CEOs or leaders from a brand or company at a comfortable level. This refutes any feeling of intimidation or disconnect and paves the way to make connections, build relationships or start conversations that ultimately could benefit your business.
Highlight your expertise within the industry
Another benefit to appearing as a guest speaker on a podcast is the ability to demonstrate your expertise and garner respect within the industry. It’s an ideal way to highlight that you know your stuff, in an appropriate context whilst also contributing something to your listeners. Think of it as respectful bragging of sorts.
Expand your exposure to an engaged audience
One of every business’s marketing goals is to positively expose their brand to their target audience. Appearing on a podcast with a ready-made audience is a great tool to do this. What’s more, is the audience is there willingly and is completely engaged in what you are saying so there’s no fighting to have your message heard.
Get content for your own platforms
Content is king, right? Appearing on a podcast as a guest speaker is an effortless way to collect quality content for your marketing. The podcast owner is responsible for the production of the episode and so you can sit back and wait for the finished product.
It’s fun!
It’s likely that if you’re asked to be a guest on a podcast, it’s because you have the relevant experience and expertise to effectively contribute to the conversation. It’s equally likely that if you have these, it’s because it’s a topic you enjoy! Take an hour out of your day to talk about a subject you enjoy and reap the above benefits as a bonus. WIN, WIN.
