Leading the charge in driving environmental change

Four new electric car charge points have been installed at the Hilton Northampton hotel for the benefit of overnight guests, visitors and EV drivers in general, as part of the hotel’s commitment to the environment and the community.

Two double charge points, supplied and installed at the Collingtree hotel by DES Energy provide a 7.5kw charge, ideal for overnight charging or a top-up for anyone needing to boost their battery levels during their journey.

Payments can be made through the DES Energy app, while drivers can check the availability of the Schneider charge points via the Zap-Map app.

Emma Coen, General Manager at Hilton Northampton, said: “Hilton has set out its carbon reduction goals for 2030 and Hilton Northampton is one of the leading hotels for sustainability. We’ve won awards within Hilton for our efforts, and last year we were finalists in Th e Green Award at the NNBN awards.

“We think that, although we’re part of a very large company, it’s important to us to play our part in the local community, and reducing our carbon footprint for the benefit of the environment is just one way we can do that.

“This investment is adding value to the community as it’s another option for local drivers who find they need a quick top-up, or where EV car owners are staying with family or friends locally and need to charge their cars during their stay.”

Hilton Northampton has 144 bedrooms that attract a variety of guests. During the week it’s predominantly business guests and then, at the weekends, it’s more likely to be those enjoying leisure pursuits, including big sporting occasions or visits to one of the area’s tourist attractions or entertainment venues. Th e pet-friendly hotel is convenient for Northampton town centre, Silverstone Circuit, Althorp and the canal village of Stoke Bruerne.

The hotel has eight flexible event venues including meeting rooms that can be configured to host anything from a meeting for two to a gathering of up to 240 people, perfect for meetings and conferences for business clients, through to weddings, parties and family occasions. Th e events team are available to advise on room hire, catering, AV equipment rental and any special requests.

Seasons Restaurant serves delicious breakfasts guaranteed to get the day off to a great start, and a dining menu offering the best local comforts and tastes from around the world, as well as a range of children’s meals. Th e contemporary Neil’s Bar & Lounge, overlooking the central courtyard area, complete with a play area for children, serves light meals and tasty bar snacks.

For extra convenience, the hotel offers The Market at Hilton, a self-service shop in the reception area, a fully equipped LivingWell fitness centre, interconnecting bedrooms ideal for families visiting the area and room service.

Emma said: “A lot of people come to Hilton Northampton because of the location; we’re very central and just a few minutes from the M1 motorway. For businesspeople who are looking for a convenient place to meet up with colleagues or clients, it’s ideal, whether it’s for a catch-up over a coffee or to bring teams together from different locations for meetings and presentations.

“Having the EV chargers available is yet another service we can offer, not only to our overnight guests or visitors but to anyone who needs to top up. If anyone is travelling on the M1 and would prefer another option to the local service stations, they can be at Hilton Northampton just a few minutes from Junction 15, put their car on charge and come in and enjoy a meal, or a cup of coffee and a snack, and rest and relax for a while before they continue their journey.

“It would appear that more and more people would like to switch to EV, but their main concern is that there is still a certain lack of infrastructure and they worry about the availability of charge points when they need them. Hopefully, businesses like ours adding more chargers will help people feel more comfortable making the switch to electric.”

The installation of the chargers is part of ongoing investment at Hilton Northampton that will see more improvements happening across the hotel over the course of the year.

“At Hilton Northampton we are always trying to bring a personal, local feel to the hotel, doing what we can for our community by supporting events and helping charities whenever we can,” added Emma. “The improvements we are making, most recently with the electric car chargers, are all part of improving the facilities and services we can offer.

“Sustainability is important to us, and we are keen to make these improvements as a business, not just from a commercial point of view, but because we want to do the right thing for the planet and the future of our community.”
