Imagine stepping off a plane, out of a train, or from your car and, in no time at all, finding yourself immersed in the heart of Hollywood magic – right here in Bedfordshire.
That’s not a movie pitch. That’s the future!
Universal Studios has announced its intention to build its first European resort just outside Bedford, a billion-pound investment set to change the region forever. From job creation and infrastructure investment to community transformation and business opportunity, Universal’s arrival is more than just entertainment, it’s a springboard for a new era.
For decades, Universal Studios has been synonymous with blockbuster films, iconic rides and unforgettable experiences. Now, Bedfordshire is set to become the next global destination. With 476 acres of land earmarked for this entertainment powerhouse, we’re not just getting roller coasters – we’re getting international attention and an unprecedented opportunity for growth.
The park is expected to draw up to 8.5 million visitors in its first year alone!
A region ready for the spotlight
Universal Studios doesn’t stand alone in shaping this next chapter. The entire South Midlands region is undergoing a bold and exciting transformation.
London Luton Airport’s expansion plans to grow capacity to 32 million passengers per year, will further boost international connectivity, aligning perfectly with the tourism pull of Universal. This enhanced gateway positions Bedfordshire as a truly global destination, offering a seamless travel experience for visitors flying in from across Europe and beyond.
Then there’s East West Rail, reconnecting Oxford and Cambridge through Bedford, transforming local and regional travel. The increased frequency and direct routes will not only ease commuter journeys but open up new opportunities for business, education and housing right along the corridor.
Adding to this picture is Luton Town Football Club’s new stadium at Power Court, set to become a cultural and economic anchor for the town. It promises not just top-tier sport but new leisure, retail, and hospitality space right in the heart of Luton.
And just a few miles away, Luton Hoo has revealed bold development plans – not only enhancing its world-renowned luxury hotel and golf course, but with a serious ambition: to host the Ryder Cup. This bid would place the area firmly on the international sporting stage, attracting thousands of visitors and millions in global media coverage, further cementing Bedfordshire’s place as a destination!
Bedfordshire is no longer preparing for the future. We are building it.
