Local Leisure Trust encourages Northampton community to ‘stay safe, stay fit and stay strong.’

A Northampton based leisure and fitness provider is encouraging local people to stay safe, stay fit and stay strong following the announcement of a new national lockdown that will last until at least mid-February.

Trilogy Leisure, which operates Cripps Recreation Centre, Danes Camp Leisure Centre, Duston Sports Centre, Lings Forum Leisure Centre, The Mounts Baths Leisure Centre and the Forum Cinema as well as Berzerk Soft Play Centre and a gym in Peterborough had to close its doors last week following the Tier 4 and subsequent COVID-19 lockdown announcements.

“We of course support the measures announced by Government that following the rapid growth in infection rates and admissions to hospital, had to be implemented.”

said John Fletcher, Managing Director of Trilogy Leisure.

“It is a priority for everyone to stay safe and follow the national guidelines.”

“Our members continue to tell us how important it was in 2020 that when permitted they could use our gyms, our swimming pools and our fitness classes to help manage their physical and mental health.”

he added.

“With the new closures we are passionate about supporting our members and the wider community to continue to stay fit and stay strong at what is a genuinely stressful time.”

Latest research has shown that people are experiencing a detrimental impact on their mental health from the COVID-19 pandemic (1) while Sport England has published evidence that shows in 2020 41% of adults did less exercise and activity during lockdowns (2)

“Covid-19 has had a profound effect on Northampton, with social distancing and restrictions on movement resulting in a complete overhaul of the way many people get active.” John continued. “That is why even though as a business we are closed and memberships frozen we are encouraging people to do what they can to stay fit and stay strong from home.”

Trilogy is encouraging local people to visit Trilogy Leisure at home where they can access a full suite of supportive services including online fitness classes, workouts for older adults, Under 5 Junior Active Fun and Fun Family Fitness.

The platform also hosts mental health resources including links to mental wellbeing audio guides that can be accessed free of charge.

Trilogy also has its popular social media platforms which offers access to its online fitness classes for members Monday-Friday where Trilogy fitness instructors teach live classes for all levels. Its weekend live online classes are available to everyone.

“Over Christmas we promoted a very popular 12 Days of Trilogy Fitness on social media. That included doing small things that make a big difference such as drinking enough water each day and slowing down your breathing if you are feeling low levels of anxiety.”

“While that advice can be followed into January we also encourage local people to go to our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TrilogyLeisure where they can look and take part in our classes which we trust will go some way to help them keep safe, keep fit and keep strong over the next six weeks.”

he said.
