Logistics group invests £8 million into new facilities in the South West

Leading logistics network, Pall-Ex Group, is enhancing services across the South West with the opening of two new logistics hubs in the coming months.

Both Pall-Ex Logistics (Devon & Cornwall) and Pall-Ex Southwest are set to open new facilities in the next month as the network strengthens its services across the South West region.

The South West peninsula has historically been one of the most challenging delivery areas in the UK due to its landscape, but for Pall-Ex, it is one of the fastest-growing areas in the country. After reaching capacity at both previous sites, the new facilities will allow the network to better meet customer demand.

Pall-Ex Logistics (Devon & Cornwall) will begin operating out of its 114,000 sq ft purpose-built facility in Launceston, Cornwall, in late-April. Increased storage capacity up to 3500 pallets and throughput of 650 pallets per day will see operational efficiency improved across the business.

Pall-Ex South West’s new 218,000 sq ft site is expected to be complete by summer and will be located in Willand, two miles from the M5 and close to the North Devon link road. Operational limits will be doubled compared to the current site, with an excess of 20 trunks per night able to be processed in the new facility.

The investment will enable Pall-Ex Group to cover the South West peninsula as efficiently as possible, with customers benefitting from improved services including freight forwarding, storage and pick and pack operations.

Sustainability has been a key driver behind the developments, with all-electric forklift truck fleets, solar panels and green water filtering being implemented across both sites.

Dan Allen, Managing Director of Pall-Ex South West said: “We are delighted to announce that Pall-Ex South West will soon be moving to a larger, purpose-built facility designed to better support our customers across the South West region.

“The investment into building our new site is crucial to Pall-Ex South West’s future growth strategy and will allow us to increase our throughput and storage capabilities massively.”

Barry Byers, Chief Operating Officer for Pall-Ex Group, comments. “The South West has always been a challenging geographic area for distribution companies to service. However, in the past five years we have generated unprecedented growth in this territory from two key sites in both Devon and Cornwall. This strategic investment consolidates and strengthens our position with both sites being built to the highest sustainability Bream standards. We are also meeting demand through expanding our product offering by adding premium storage and fulfilment services for our valued customers.”
