But what has changed in the travel industry with the advent of the internet is the complexity of it all, and the potential risks should something go wrong.
“Using a reputable travel agent means that the entire trip has complete ATOL protection so the travel agent shoulders all the responsibility for the customer. So, if your flight is cancelled that’s covered, and your accommodation is covered too. Booking aspects of a holiday individually doesn’t necessarily offer the same protection.
“Added to that, we have the knowledge that goes beyond what you might see on a website. We can recommend hotels or experiences, and our reputation depends on those recommendations meeting customers’ expectations. We work within the customer’s budget and if that means some kind of compromise, at least we’re able to make them aware of what’s available to them before they book so they can make an informed decision, rather than be disappointed when they get there and it’s not what they were expecting.”
Rob and Lisa both travelled the world for work for many years and put that experience to good use in setting up Dragonfly Traveller. Both enjoy travelling in order to research places to stay and visit, and the company’s website offers a plethora of information about hundreds of potential destinations, along with advice on sights to see, what time of year to visit and what type of holiday – from family Disney trips to adult-only cruises, specialist or activity holidays to city breaks – for anyone looking for something new and different.
Rob said: “We find the planning and research of places to visit just as exciting as the actual trip, and so it made perfect sense to make it our day-to-day job, helping other people find their dream holiday, too.
“For me, the greatest pleasure is in saving clients time, fuss and bother by designing and booking their holiday for them, and all they have to do is turn up and enjoy it. Getting to know our clients and understanding their requirements so that we can pull together an itinerary that is unique to them is the best part of this job.”
