This week on All Things Business – The Podcast, Frazer sits down with Danny Roberts, Practice Manager and Partner at DFA Law, who are also our new digital partners. Danny speaks on the digital partnership, emphasising that he can see that they are both local, ambitious, and growing brands.
Danny’s unusual status at DFA is also touched upon. While he is a Partner at the law firm, he’s not a trained solicitor himself. He was approached to join DFA Law in 2017, and achieved his unique status in 2021, after being warned off it in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Danny is well-known in the Northampton business community as an avid sports enthusiast, especially golf and football. His and Frazer’s friendship bloomed over an Aston Villa Christmas jumper and he’s been golfing since his early teens. While his handicap has slipped, he feels he is a better golfer today than he was when he was 18.
Grief & Mental Health
The conversation takes a more sombre turn towards Danny’s wife, Nicola, who sadly passed away very suddenly in April 2022. Danny is clearly emotional but wants to discuss it on the basis of being honest about grief and mental health. He shares that it’s been very hard both for him and his two children, and the support of their family, friends and business partners has been essential. He emphasises that there is always hope, even if it can feel like he’s going backwards some days.
What The Future Holds
The conversation ends by looking to the future. Danny shares his ambitions for DFA Law’s growth. They’re going from strength to strength and are aiming to boost their recruitment by providing new benefits and emphasising work-life balance. Their ownership is young, Danny is second oldest at 45, so they have a lot of ambition and aim to grow organically.
