Episode 36 | 2023 Half Year Review

It’s a classic Ben and Frazer duo episode, as they sit down to review the first half of 2023. They begin by reflecting on the success of the podcast and some of the incredible episodes they’ve had the privilege of being involved in.

Ben highlights the episodes with John Hewitt, Elaine Harries, Danny Roberts and Parm Bhangal as particular highlights, while Frazer mentions the episodes with Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock, John Hartson and reiterates the impact of Danny Roberts’ episode, calling it both difficult and inspiring due to its heavy subject matter.

Reflecting On The Year So Far

Moving on to a more general review, Frazer says Q1 was very successful, with Q2 being a bit closer to the average, but he believes Q3 will see a return to the overperformance of Q1. Ben mentions a personal highlight for him: the event to mark the launch of Steve Thompson’s Head On Foundation, a charity supporting those affected by brain injury, early on-set dementia, mental health and other neurological problems. The event was held in the home changing room at Northampton Saints and featured after-dinner speaking from Thompson and Sir Clive Woodward.

Both Frazer and Ben comment on how incredible Sir Woodward’s speech was, discussing his wide range of experiences across many walks of life. Frazer describes the room as hanging off his every word.

Turning to the awards, finalists have been announced for the MKEAs, and feedback has been great all around. Working in and around Milton Keynes has enlightened both Ben and Frazer to the specific challenges facing the city. Both also praise Harry’s Rainbow, a local charity that helps young children through grief counselling and other services after the loss of a family member.

The podcast ends with Ben and Frazer looking forward to the rest of the year, particularly some ESG focussed events coming up and how more education is needed across the business community on the topic, something that All Things Business is hoping to help remedy going forward.
