If walking over hot coals once seems like madness, it’s even more surprising that fundraisers will be back for more of the same when Harry’s Rainbow holds its second Fire Walk in May.
Encouraged by Holiday Inn MK, which is sponsoring the event and entering a team, the children’s bereavement charity has once again called upon UK Firewalk to manage the event, which will involve walking four to five metres over coals that can reach a temperature of 500 degrees Celsius.
Participants and spectators are welcome to join in the fun at Capital Space at Linford Wood in Milton Keynes on May 14, where the organisers are hoping to build on the 40 or so people who took part last year.
Alison Johnson, Fundraising and Events Manager at Harry’s Rainbow, who took part herself last year, is gearing up for another walk. She said: “There were a lot of people very unsure about taking part last year, but after you’ve undergone the training and prepared yourself, it’s a fantastic experience and you feel so amazing afterwards.

“All the team from Harry’s Rainbow who did it last year are doing it again, with a few more besides, now they can see that it’s not as scary as they thought.
“Holiday Inn asked us to do it and are sponsoring the event and they’re entering a team. It really is a good team building event for businesses, as well as for groups of friends or individuals, to get together and urge one another on. And the more spectators the better, because we want a really good atmosphere.”
It costs just £10 to enter, which covers an event T-shirt and a certificate once the walk is completed, and participants are asked to raise a minimum of £50 for Harry’s Rainbow.
Those taking part have to commit to undertaking registration and training from 5.30pm, when the UK Firewalk team will explain what’s involved and how to make the most of the experience, before the walk starts at 6.30pm.
The Woodside Café at Capital Space will be open throughout the event to provide refreshments for firewalkers and spectators.
Alison added: “This really is something different for businesses that want to get their teams together for a new challenge, to push themselves to try something different. The charity celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, so we’re very excited about getting as many people as possible along this year to all our events this year. We’ve lowered the Fire Walk entry fee and the minimum fundraising target, so we’re looking forward to another great event.”
