Places are still available on the Harry’s Rainbow team for Milton Keynes’ Festival of Running next March, as the children’s bereavement charity aims to reach a record high of 150 team members to mark its 15th anniversary.
Joining with Harry’s Rainbow means anyone who registers gets 15% off the entry fee for the March 15 event.
The Festival of Running includes the Milton Keynes Half Marathon as well as a 5K, 10K and 20-mile run, and Harry’s Rainbow team members can choose their own preferred distance, but, thanks to the generous support of Taylor Wimpey, all members of the Harry’s Rainbow team will receive a free event T-shirt, as well as an invitation to join the charity at the Midsummer Tap after the run, where a buffet will be provided.
Alison Johnson, Fundraising and Events Manager at Harry’s Rainbow, said: “We already have more than 130 people signed up to run for the charity this year, which is fantastic, but we would love to hit our target of 150. The hundredth person to sign up received a special goody bag from us, and there will also be a goody bag for the person who takes us to 150.
“It’s fun to run as part of a team, even though all the runners do their own distance at their own pace, and we all get together afterwards for a drink and some food, and that’s always a fun part of the day.”
Harry’s Rainbow works with children who have lost a parent or sibling and organises groups and activities to help youngsters through their isolation and loneliness, offering guidance and support. The charity has helped more than 1,000 children over the past 15 years and demand for its services is constantly growing.
In addition to sponsorship from Taylor Wimpey, the charity is also supported by The Good Gym and Everyday Performance Therapy. The minimum fundraising target for the Festival of Running is a realistic £30 but anyone raising more than £100 will begin to unlock a range of benefits from The Good Gym MK and Everyday Performance Therapy.
In addition, to help runners get into shape for the run, The Good Gym MK is also inviting people along to a running club on Sundays, starting at the gym at 11.15am each week, free for anyone that wants to join in.
The Festival of Running starts at Xscape in Milton Keynes city centre before heading out into beautiful scenic routes over mostly flat courses. And because the Festival of Running coincides with Mothering Sunday, there will be a glass of prosecco for all mothers taking part.
Alison added: “Training for a run in March can be a fantastic way to get back into shape after the Christmas break, so hopefully we’ll get people who are thinking about their New Year resolutions to get fit, and need a goal to aim, signing up to run in aid of Harry’s Rainbow.”
