Station wins top networking award

MKFM has proven its success in networking after taking top honours in a leading business awards.

The radio and news outlet’s networking event, Meet of MK, was especially singled out by the SME MK & Buckinghamshire Business Awards 2026, as a guiding light in the world of business interacting and meeting after nine hugely successful years in operation. It took the awards’ Networking Group of the Year category.

Well-supported by the business community throughout Milton Keynes and its surrounding towns, the monthly Meet of MK gatherings have become ‘the place to be’ when it comes to networking, socialising and learning about new and exciting prospects within the city’s community.

And last year the popular broadcast and news outlet decided to give even more back to the city – especially its charities – and used the Meet of MK evenings to raise awareness and funds for local good causes. Attendees at the busy meetings have been asked to donate to a chosen charity of the month by way of a business card-style raffle.

And the business community has responded brilliantly, helping the station to raise more than £8,000 for the charity partners since the fundraising launched. Just being a finalist in the SME Awards, which took place at the Leonardo Hotel in Milton Keynes in April, reflected the success of MKFM over these last few years.

But being named Networking Group of the Year and winning the category represents an enormous recognition for the radio station. “After setting up the Meet of MK nine years ago as an alternative to so-called traditional networking, I was so happy for MKFM to be a finalist at the SME Awards, and then to win, and for the team here to be recognised for all of their hard work, was incredible,” said MKFM director Jo Ronan.

“We are so proud of all that we have achieved. Being able to bring our business community together in the best environment has always been our priority, and the many stories of positive collaborations which have their origins in the Meet of MK events are proof that what we do really works.

“Over the past few years, Meet of MK has flourished beyond anything we could have hoped for when we first launched, and it really is a highlight of the monthly calendar, for the business community, and for us. “Meet of MK is proof that the new city and its community is something special, and walking away with the award was fantastic.”

The SME (small and medium enterprise) Business Awards are sought-after accolades which raise the profile of hard-working and busy smaller companies. To qualify, businesses must have less than 250 employees. “We were delighted to see such talent and entrepreneurial spirit in a very full house for the recent SME MK & Buckinghamshire Business Awards,” said awards director Damian Cummins.

“As the night progressed, winner after winner stepped on stage and now the journey continues with the Gold Winners going forward to the SME National Business Awards in London this November. “With national winners from MK last year, our fingers are crossed that the local winners will come away with a national accolade.

“Among those making their way to the national stage were the rather special MKFM, who won the Networking Group of the Year, hosting up to 250 attendees every single month, a fine achievement. For those inclined to have a flutter, it might be time to head to the bookies.”
