As part of its ongoing commitment to support the community, renowned Northants home lifestyle store Bell of Northampton recently welcomed three local students for a three-day work experience placement at its Kingsthorpe Road showroom.
The Year 9 students from Northampton School for Boys, Kingsley, Henry and Eric, embarked on a jam-packed schedule which ensured that they gained insight into all areas of the business, from accounts, logistics, retail, installations and marketing.
During the placement, the students were also tasked with completing a series of projects including brainstorming an innovative concept for a new department at Bell and working alongside the store’s bathroom and kitchen teams to design a bathroom and kitchen using computer aided design (CAD) software. To complete the full experience, the students presented their ideas to the Bell team.
Commenting on the initiative, Lee Ferris, managing director at Bell said: “Work experience provides a great opportunity for students to experience a real-life work environment.
“It gives them a valuable opportunity to grow their skills while understanding how a business runs. As a local business we like to engage in the community and hosting work experience is a really good way for us to give back.
“The students were a pleasure to host and it was great to see how enthusiastic and excited they were by things that, for us, are our everyday jobs.
“This isn’t the first time we have offered work experience and it certainly won’t be the last. Indeed, we will be looking to repeat this on an annual basis.
“Special thanks go to everyone at Bell who played a part in hosting the students and making them feel welcome.”
Speaking on being given the opportunity to fulfil a work experience placement at Bell, student Kingsley said: “It was an amazing experience at Bell.
“I learnt a lot and designed a really nice bathroom and kitchen. All the staff were also very kind and helpful.”
