With the closing date for the Milton Keynes Education Awards just next week, as well as the Northamptonshire Education Awards and Northamptonshire Business Excellence Awards deadline dates not long after, we’ve compiled some helpful tips for putting together an excellent award nomination. Try these out when putting together your nomination.
Read your submission aloud to a friend or colleague
This can help you test the readability and persuasiveness of your nomination. The friend or colleague may also be able to help you fill out extra details and bolster your overall argument.
Think like a judge
The independent judges are the ultimate arbiters of who wins these awards. They will see a lot of submissions so it’s important to try to think about what will stand out to them, as well as what they may value when judging the category in question.
Highlight how your nominee is unique
Being good at something is one thing, but what is the thing that really pushes your nominee over the top and separates them from the rest of the pack? It’s important to illustrate why the nominee is uniquely deserving of the award, and how they have proved that.
Show personality and humanise the nomination
Again, this is about separating your nominee from the crowd. Whatever their achievement, it’s worth asking yourself how they achieved it their way. What made their methods or achievement special? How did their personality or viewpoint shine through?
Use supporting materials
If you can evidence your nominee’s achievement in some way, that’s always going to impress the judges. It can also be good to show the achievement or method itself, such as including the materials produced for a project discussed elsewhere in the nomination.
