Towering achievement by an intrepid team

For the second year in a row, Hawsons Chartered Accountants have completed an abseil down the National Lift Tower, the iconic piece of architecture in Northampton, which is the also largest abseil in the world.

In October, the team chose to raise funds for Kids Aid, a Northamptonshire charity that delivers trauma-informed and therapeutic parenting workshops as well as one-to-one and group therapies. The 418-foot abseil was accomplished by the gutsy team of Aimee Smith, Tracy Hodder, Vai Rawji and Partha Joshi.

David Owens, Corporate Services Partner at Hawsons, said: “We are always looking for ways to support the local community, being involved in charity events like these are a great way to do so. We were excited to put forward our team, who were courageous enough to participate in the event. Two of our volunteers were new to Hawsons, joining the firm in early September, it’s encouraging that they’ve engaged so quickly with the firm’s values.”

Partha Joshi, said: “I really enjoyed abseiling for Kids Aid (even though I’m not keen on heights) I would fully encourage anyone else to take on this challenge too, as it is for a fantastic cause.”

Kids Aid raised just shy of £6,600 from the event, with the Hawsons team contributing £735 towards that total. All funds raised will make a considerable difference to children and young people in Northamptonshire who require therapy.

The day was a success, and, despite the threat of inclement weather, it was the perfect day to abseil outside. Everyone that went along was incredibly supportive, congratulating each person as they came down creating a remarkable atmosphere.

Aimee Smith said: “A massive thank you to Lorraine Elks at Kids Aid for coordinating the event and the support on the day. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to do this for such a great cause. It was less scary than I imagined, more of an experience I would recommend to anyone. I wanted to get up and down the tower as quickly as possible and before I knew it, I’d done it!

“The team at the abseil tower and from Kids Aid kept the spirits up and definitely calmed my nerves. I hope we get the chance to enter another team next year.”
