Running from Friday 3 September to Sunday 5 September, the event will see performance group Third Angel draw a large map of Bedford on the ground in Harpur Square and invite residents to rename the streets around a hope, dream or ambition that they have for the future.
The event will challenge the traditional reasoning behind the naming of local streets in the town, such as historic figures of the past or the locations that they lead to. Instead participants are asked to consider more aspirational names based on their shared experiences of the town.
Bedford Borough Council is providing financial support to local delivery partners to help them bring this installation to Bedford.
Councillor Henry Vann, Portfolio Holder for Town Centres and Planning, said: “We’re excited to be supporting The Desire Paths event in Harpur Square this weekend with our Town Centre Priority Fund. We’re looking forward to the results as people engage in our wonderful town and their hopes for the future.
“It is fantastic that Third Angel alongside The Place Theatre and their partners have been able to bring such an exciting event to Bedford. I strongly encourage people to try it out.”
If you’d like to get involved, visit Harpur Square between 10am to 5pm this weekend, starting Friday 3 September.
The event will be free to participate in. To find out more, visit www.theplacebedford.org.uk/shows/the-desire-paths/
