Taking control to deliver excellent customer service

Manufacturing | February 2, 2022

DATS Print Services

When you want quality print and you want it quickly, you need a manufacturer with experts that know what will work and what won’t. What can be done in the timescale and what can’t, and more importantly, can advise truthfully the options that are available.

DATS Print Services Ltd was founded 50 years ago this year, originally as Duplicating and Typewriting Service, by two sisters who saw a business idea back in the days when everything was on paper, you couldn’t just bash out an email and send it electronically to a vast amount of people.

Because the roots go so far back, the Irthlingborough company has grown to know the industry inside out. Brothers Mark and Ian Brown, now the Directors of the business, have close on 80 years’ experience in print between them, both having started apprenticeships as printers at the start of the 1980s.

Continual investment in state-of-the-art equipment means DATS can deliver quality litho or digital print, adding promotional products and workwear over the years, becoming the embodiment of that most famous phrase – the one-stop shop – for printed products.

Managing Director Mark said:

“Where we differ from many other print suppliers is that we control everything, so we know exactly what can and can’t be done. These days, people who used to expect a job done in a week, now demand it quicker, often in two days, and if they were once happy to wait a month, they now want it in a week. We will listen, then communicate with honest advice, how we can meet their request.

“If a customer wanted litho, but their timescales are extremely short, they can switch to a digital option. It will still be a very good result. A conversation will explain the differences – yes, we enjoy talking to or meeting our clients, an art that seems to be lost in the technical age.

“And because they are leaving everything in the hands of our team, some of whom have up to 25 years’ experience with DATS, they can trust us to do the job well and make sure they get what they want.”

Customer service is paramount at DATS – Mark firmly believes the company has thrived and seen enviable customer retention because it sets itself such high expectations for its customers, large or small, with the aim to achieve complete satisfaction.

For customers, the real point of difference is that the work is done by the DATS team inside their own building.

“We’re in control of everything and our name and reputation depends on the customer having complete satisfaction, then returning with more orders – so our aim is to make sure they always do,” said Mark.
