Decision allows club to start to move forward

Following a cabinet meeting in early March with West Northamptonshire Council, Northampton Town Football Club is pleased to confirm that members voted to approve the club’s proposal for the disposal of land at Sixfields.

This is a very important decision for the club, coming as it did in the week of its 125th anniversary when it welcomed over 7,300 fans to see the Cobblers beat Tranmere Rovers at Sixfields, and the decision now allows the process to move on to the contractual stage with legal papers to be drawn up for the completion of the East Stand.

Chairman Kelvin Thomas reacted to the decision and updated supporters on the next steps and the timescales involved:

“It has been a long time coming in terms of the process, and we completely understand why that was the case, but the cabinet decision was a very positive step.

“It is a massive decision for the football club, we cannot stress how important it was for us and we are very pleased the decision was made. A lot of people have worked very hard to ensure the whole process was very robust and very transparent. The whole deal is structured around what is in the best interests of the football club and that is what we want to achieve.

“It is very important we don’t get carried away. We want to get moving as quickly as possible. I have already spoken to Buckinghams and we have talked about setting up a meeting, but we can’t rush the process.

“The ACV process could take six weeks or six months, we are not in control of that, so we have to make sure we don’t set unfair expectations and that supporters know what we are looking at. We are keen and ready to move forward as soon as possible, we are working diligently and ready to move as soon as we can.

“I think our supporters trust us, they know we are working in the best interests of the club. We would like to thank all our supporters, partners, stakeholders, and the community for their loyal support throughout the process and we will provide more details over the coming weeks.”
