Trident Tax delivers specialist advice for companies, individuals, trusts and charities. With offices in London, Manchester and Solihull, the tax practice was founded in 2009 by Alan Kennedy.
“Our philosophy is that any tax advice has to be practical rather than theoretical and genuinely reflect the individual needs and circumstances of clients,” said Alan. “That’s why we don’t deal with solutions or products. Instead, we look at every situation individually and provide bespoke advice. Being a small practice, we naturally put our clients at the centre of everything we do.”
Alan has built a career around tax. He began started out, and qualified, at HMRC, working as a special investigator, later moving on to work at KPMG before founding Trident Tax.
Alan and the rest of the Trident Tax team have undertaken a wide range of tax advisory and tax dispute resolution work for individuals, companies and trusts. The team has a deep experience of dealing with HMRC investigations of all kinds from the most serious tax fraud investigations to complex technical inquiries.
Alan said:
“Our team has gained this experience from many years of working within the tax profession and in our roles as senior tax inspectors at HMRC. We enjoy working with entrepreneurs, families and owner-managed businesses. The technical expertise within the tax team, our procedural knowledge of the tax system, and our ability to negotiate settlements with HMRC ensures that disputes are handled and resolved effectively. Our advice is always founded on experience of what is and isn’t acceptable to the tax authorities. We believe it is best to be realistic from the outset and not to be disappointed later.”
As to tax advisory services, the sheer volume and complexity of UK tax legislation can often act as a barrier to business expansion, relocation of assets and the growth and distribution of family wealth.
“There are something like 25,000 pages of tax legislation in this country, it’s an incredibly complicated set of rules and the chances of getting it wrong or misunderstanding it are high,”
said Alan.
“We understand the system from the inside out because we’ve worked in it.
“Our objective in advising clients is to develop a real understanding of their businesses and personal situations together with their ambitions and goals. We do this to be able to provide timely and relevant tax advice”.
Trident Tax often works with other professionals and enjoys working with clients and their advisors alike. Trident is often asked to assist accountancy practices, solicitors, wealth managers and trustees upon a wide variety of tax advisory matters and issues.
Over the coming months in All Things Business, Alan will be contributing articles sharing his advice and opinions on a range of key tax issues that will provide invaluable support for individuals and businesses.
Alan added:
“We very much welcome working with these advisors and their clients. We always enjoy creating and building new relationships. We have learnt that it is important to invest time in helping the client and their advisor understand how best to address any tax issue or dispute. My team and I are always willing to speak or meet with potential clients or their advisors to give them an understanding as to how the issues might best be approached and settled.”
