Every year, Hawsons holds an annual day out where all staff members of the firm, from its offices in Northampton, Doncaster and Sheffield, get the opportunity to enjoy a day out of the office, to have fun and to get to know each other a little bit better. This year’s took place on June 15 at Nottingham Racecourse, followed by an evening meal at a tapas restaurant in the city centre.
In previous years the firm has held staff days in various settings, including Alton Towers, Ladies Day at Doncaster Racecourse and in London. The days are organised to promote staff recognition, to celebrate achievements and to build morale within the team. It is important as a firm for the offices to mix and get to know each other better, as a number of the staff work across all offices and so familiarity helps.
The day at Nottingham races started with some activities relating to the core values which underpin the success of the firm. Hawsons has been holding core value months, June’s value being Empowerment. This promotes development and trust in one other and for everyone to take ownership and be the best that they can be. To reflect the value, activities were chosen which empower staff, taking them out of their comfort zone, starting with creating an elevator pitch which best describes what the firm does and how it achieves its ambitions.
That was followed by a team building exercise which involved building a tower out of cardboard, plastic cups and paper straws before finally ending with a quiz. These activities allowed staff to get to know one other in mixed groups from the different offices and create an overall positive team spirit. This was followed by lunch, refreshments and watching the racing.
