Executive changes announced to drive next phase of growth

Unusual Industries announces a significant evolution of its leadership structure as the business enters its next phase of growth.

Founded in 1983 by Alan Jacobi, Unusual has played a defining role in shaping the live production industry. In 2020, leadership transitioned to the next generation, with Tom Harper continuing the company’s legacy of innovation, expertise and integrity.

Following a sustained period of expansion across multiple regions and a workforce now exceeding 150 people, the Group is implementing a more structured leadership model to support its long-term ambitions. Designed to strengthen oversight, unlock internal talent and future-proof the business, the new structure marks a clear step forward in Unusual’s development.

As part of this transition, Tom Harper will assume the role of Group Chief Executive Officer of Unusual Industries, effective 6 April 2026.

Looking ahead, the business will focus on building greater depth across its leadership team, with a clear commitment to succession planning and the development of future leaders from within. With a strong pipeline of talent already established, Unusual is well positioned for sustained success.

At Unusual Rigging, a key pillar of the Group, Simon Tiernan has been appointed Managing Director to lead the next phase of operational excellence. His promotion reflects both his exceptional technical expertise and proven leadership.

Simon’s progression through the organisation—from hands-on site work just six years ago to a senior leadership position—embodies the culture that defines Unusual: dedication, teamwork and a relentless focus on solutions.

Simon Tiernan said: “Having been part of the business since the late 80s when we were pushing 20 road boxes around a small warehouse in Stanmore, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come. I’m proud to step into this role and excited to lead such a talented team into the future.”

Further strengthening the leadership structure, Jim Dugan will take on the role of General Manager, building on his significant contribution to the company’s General Management Team.

They will be supported by Unusual Rigging’s experienced leadership group, including Simon Stone, Chris Johnson, Leon Ingram and Mark Wylie.

This transition introduces sharper accountability, enhanced systems and continued investment in leadership development. The ambition is to build a resilient, future-ready organisation that thrives on collective strength rather than reliance on any one individual.

While the structure evolves, the core values remain unchanged. A commitment to ethical practice, the circular economy and putting people first continues to define the business and make it Unusual…

Tom Harper, Group CEO, added: “I’m extremely optimistic about the future. This transition is about building something lasting—for our clients, our industry and for everyone who has helped shape and sustain this outstanding company.”
