Creating meaningful connections through sport

Bedford Blues Foundation is proud to have launched a new Memory Café at Goldington Road, made possible thanks to the generous support of the National Lottery’s Awards for All funding.

Launched in May, the Memory Café is a welcoming and inclusive space designed to bring people together, reduce loneliness and create meaningful connections within the local community.

Set in the heart of Bedford, at the home of Elior Champ Rugby side, Bedford Blues, the sessions provide an opportunity to meet new friends, share stories and relive special memories connected to both rugby and wider life.

Whether they have supported Bedford Blues for years or are simply looking to connect with others, everyone is welcome to join the sessions, which are completely free to access.

Each session features a range of inclusive and engaging activities, including light sport-based activities, games, music, creative workshops and informal discussions. There will also be opportunities to explore the wider Blues Family environment and celebrate the rich history and community spirit of Bedford Blues.

Who is this for?

The Memory Café offers a warm and supportive social space for people experiencing loneliness, memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, or other forms of dementia – as well as their caregivers and loved ones.

Sessions take place on the third Tuesday of every month, with all dates up until the end of 2026 now available to book through the Bedford Blues Foundation website or via the email below.

The Memory Café is about connection, conversation and community – a friendly place to come together, stay active and enjoy being part of something special.

The meetings will take place over two hours from 10am, and be held in the Scrum Bar, which is located halfway up the driveway on site. There is free on-site parking available, accessed through the Gilbert Hitchcock Health Village. Using What Three Words, the road turning into the health village is views.intro.wipe and then the car park itself is dare.film.total.

The Memory Café is the latest project launched by the charitable arm of Bedford Blues, as the club continues to try to have a lasting impact across Bedfordshire and its surrounding area.

Its vision is to inspire the community through the values of rugby for the advancement and promotion of positive and informed lifestyle choices across three key pillars: Wellbeing, Inclusivity and Skills.

This Memory Café brings together all of those key metrics under one roof and adds to a wide and varied portfolio of award-winning projects which have been launched since being granted charity status in 2020.

Blues Foundation is always open to discussions about how to increase its delivery ever further.
