Channelling the feelgood factor on and off the pitch

With a new buzz around the club and a healthy start to the season on the pitch, Kettering Town FC’s new Commercial Manager Naheed Shears is focused on channelling the feelgood factor into new opportunities and partnerships with the business community.

Naheed is the third member of the Akhtar family to get involved at Latimer Park since the club entered new ownership earlier this year. Her brother George Akhtar is the club’s new owner, and their sister Nadiya Akhtar is Commercial Director.

One focus has been on getting the local community more involved, making better use of the impressive facilities, including the clubhouse for clubs and social events. A Halloween event gave family and friends an opportunity to dress up and enjoy some spooky fun, while the club’s beer festival on November 9 will bring together local breweries and businesses to showcase their products, and bring supporters and the wider public in to enjoy some fantastic beers. There will be entertainment throughout the day, as well as fundraising for Team Mikayla, a charity that supports local children fighting cancer.

In addition, with Christmas on the horizon, the club has plenty of party space, from its social club, club 1872 and match-day hospitality, for anyone looking for ideas for events and days out during the festive season.

Success on the pitch, and the increase in activity at the club, alongside its plans to develop further, means it is the perfect time for more businesses to take advantage of the commercial potential.

Naheed said:

“I’ve only been in position a short time but I’m already building valuable partnerships with local businesses, such as our collaboration with Matt from Lifestyle Personal Training, who has set up a gym here, supporting the fitness and wellbeing of the players, but also running a whole range of classes that anyone can join in with.

“Our Sponsors Day a couple of weeks ago was great fun, when the sponsors joined us at the match to meet us and one another, and enjoy some hospitality and entertainment.

“Kettering Town relies on the support of sponsors and fans and I’m committed to ensuring that these partner- ships continue to grow. Attendances at matches are going up, we’re regularly getting more than 900 people in the ground now, and that’s a great opportunity for businesses to promote themselves on the pitch-side boards or in the programme.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to build these relationships and making Kettering Town FC a hub for football, businesses and community engagement.”
