Cyclists challenged in aid of bereaved children

The wheels are in motion for a challenging event that will bring cyclists together for a trip to the seaside, and all in aid of an organisation that supports bereaved children.

Harry’s Rainbow, the Milton Keynes-based charity that offers support groups, trips, events, holidays and mental health support to children who’ve lost aparent or sibling, is inviting participants to sign up for the London to Brighton Cycle Ride on September 15.

The 55-mile ride from Clapham Common takes riders through the beautiful Sussex countryside and over the South Downs to the seafront at Brighton and has become a firm favourite in the fundraising calendar over the years.

In order to encourage cyclists to take part in aid of Harry’s Rainbow, the charity has put together a pledge for any individual, or member of a team, raising more than £300 in sponsorship. Everyone who does so will have their entry fee to the event refunded as well as receiving a Harry’s Rainbow T-shirt. Riders will also receive a lunch bag and finisher’s medal from the event organisers.

Odette Mould MBE, founder of Harry’s Rainbow, said: “We’ve taken part in the London to Brighton event before and it’s great fun and we would encourage anyone who enjoys cycling to enter. If they get a few friends together and enter as a team, I’m sure they’ll have a fantastic day in a lovely part of the country, raising money for an important cause.”

It costs almost £700 a year for Harry’s Rainbow to support just one child, and the charity currently has more than 400 children registered, 75 of whom have registered since January this year.

By participating in this ride and raising funds, the riders will be making a real difference in the lives of these children, helping them navigate through their grief and find hope for the future.

Those entering should register themselves or their team via the link below and set up a JustGiving page, sending the JustGiving details to Harry’s Rainbow so that they can send out a T-shirt order form, and then process the entry fee refund for all those who end up raising at least £300 or teams that raise the equivalent of £300 per person. Participants will be responsible for getting themselves to and from the event.
