Eye-Catching Touches That Transform The Old and Tired Into Something New

Regardless of how well it’s all going inside your business premises, the fact is that first impressions count and if the exteriors look dated and the reception area is starting to feel just a bit unloved, your visitors are not going to be as impressed as they could be.

Fortunately, Unique Finishes has a whole range of solutions – from adding eye-catching touches such as brand colours as part of an office relocation, to transforming the old and tired into something that looks fresh and new.

Unique Finishes uses spraying and wrap techniques that are just becoming established in the UK after having been used in the US for years. Since it was founded by Joseph Hurn, the company has developed from one that began with renovating dated window frames into one that sees Joseph and his team regularly renovating entire office spaces for clients across the country.

Projects include the practical, from spraying window frames and exterior doors, or using architectural films to wrap doors and walls, through to the more imaginative, such as a boardroom table given a new lease of life by incorporating a company’s colours or logo.

Unique Finishes’ aim is that the renovated items end up looking better than new. Joseph is adamant that if the finished work looks like it’s been sprayed or wrapped, then they have failed – it should look like it has emerged straight from the factory.

Virtually any colour can be matched for spraying, opening up a seemingly endless range of options. The paints used in spraying projects have been designed to chemically bond with the original material, offering a factory finish look, and come with a 10-year guarantee against cracking, peeling or fading.

Wraps, meanwhile, are available in more than 1,500 choices of colours and effects, including fabric, embossed leather, concrete and glitter and, of course, an alternative to real wood that gives the natural look and feel of wood grain.

“Our focus has always been on sustainability – reducing the need to replace high-quality doors and furniture just because they’re looking a little the worse for wear,” said Joseph.

“These are very often high-cost items, so replacing them is not only expensive, there’s also the impact disposing of them has on the environment.”

Unique Finishes offers a cost-effective way to refurbish an office at a time when costs are rising, and budgets
are tightening.

“I can’t stand the idea of good-quality items being discarded when they don’t need to be, or customers paying for new furniture and fittings when they could be doing so much more with their money,”

added Joseph.

“Anything that has a finish on it can be wrapped or sprayed. Outside doors, internal office doors, fire doors, lift doors, desks, meeting room furniture and boardroom tables. Because a lot of fittings are good, solid expensive items, you wouldn’t want to just replace them, but it’s not easy finding someone who can renovate them. Fortunately, we can.”

As long as the original materials are not damaged, they can be sprayed or wrapped in a wide range of colours and finishes – to give a modern new look at a fraction of the cost of replacing everything and starting again.

Joseph added:

“These techniques have become commonplace in other countries, but here we have a tendency to think we need to get rid of something if it’s not fit for purpose. The fact is, as long as it’s not too badly damaged, we can work with it, and even with the high-quality materials we use, you’re getting a finish that is often better quality than the original, for a fraction of the cost, and it’s guaranteed for 10 to 12 years.”

Unique Finishes specialises in office refurbishments that not only include the wrapping and spraying but, as finishing touches such as power washing and line marking so that the building gets a refresh inside and out.

The company also supplies window films that are becoming increasingly attractive as energy bills rise. Not only do the films – which can be clear, tinted or reflective – block out UVA and UVB rays, which means furniture inside the room doesn’t fade over time, they also trap heat from the sun so the building doesn’t get too hot in summer and stop the internal heat from escaping in the cold weather.
