Firm hits new heights with sparkling office opening

Accountants and tax advisers Mercer & Hole has celebrated the opening of its new Milton Keynes offices in style. Olympic silver medallist Gail Emms joined the team in November to cut the ribbon, signalling the start of a new chapter for the firm and a sparkling new home on the third floor of The Pinnacle.

Gail was welcomed by Private Client Partner, Lisa Spearman in front of an enthusiastic audience. A truly inspirational speaker, Gail captivated guests with her personal story of her journey to Olympic success in badminton, recounting how her mother refused to let her win matches as a child until she could truly beat her – an accomplishment she proudly achieved at age 12!

Building on this, Gail talked about how she had to push further each day to give that little bit extra to achieve her goal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens where she won her silver medal. As a badminton doubles player, she also spoke passionately about the power of partnerships, exploring the dynamics and trust that drive success not just in sport but in business too.

Andrew Lawes, Mercer & Hole’s Audit and Business Advisory Partner spoke to the gathered guests about the firm’s history, achievements and continued commitment to the local community. The twin themes of pushing boundaries to achieve success and the importance of strong partnerships permeated the day and resonated strongly with members of the firm. He said:

“We have worked closely with local businesses and people help them thrive, but we are also proud to have become an integral partner within that community. The drive and dynamism of this exciting community has also fed into our success, and this is at the heart of a true and inspirational partnership.”

Pushing boundaries since 1989

It was back in 1989 that Mercer & Hole’s now Joint Managing Partner, Paul Maberly, and fellow partners launched its Milton Keynes offices which were opened by the mayor. Since then, Mercer & Hole has become part of the thriving Milton Keynes business community which has seen off tough times to become the ‘Silicon Valley’ of Europe as a leader in the technology and emerging AI industry.

A top 40 firm, Mercer & Hole is known for its strength in corporate and business tax, audit and business advisory and in supporting individuals with tax and financial planning. The firm’s presence in Milton Keynes has grown since its inception and it has worked hard to develop and expand its service offer- ing to the local community, working through several changes in government and emerging through difficult years including the recent global pandemic.

Working in partnership with AI technology

Going forward, the teams at the Milton Keynes office are continuing to expand their provision of virtual finance offerings to provide real- time financial information to help business owners understand business performance, manage their cashflow and profitability.

As a firm, Mercer & Hole is striving to keep pushing beyond what is expected by working with the latest AI developments to provide business owners with truly bespoke packages that will boost productivity and save precious time. It is this personalised approach, particularly when working with new technology that perhaps sets Mercer & Hole apart from its competitors. Members of the firm enjoy forging strong and lasting relationships with their clients as it is through these strong partnerships that they can achieve the best for their clients, their businesses and families so that they can reach their financial and life goals.

Part of the wider community

As part of the opening celebration, Mercer & Hole demonstrated its ongoing commitment to the Milton Keynes community by presenting a cheque to Carers MK, a charity providing vital support to unpaid carers in the region. Members of the Mercer & Hole team in Milton Keynes officially voted to support this local charity at the beginning of the year and took part in many fundraising events including bake sales and sponsored runs in order to raise money for this important cause. Lisa Spearman said:

“I am so proud of everyone in the Milton Keynes office for raising money for a cause that is extremely close to our hearts and has affected some of our members personally. At Mercer & Hole, we don’t just see ourselves as part of the busi- ness community but part of the wider community too. Most of us either live in Milton Keynes or the surrounding area and we see ourselves as part of the fabric of what makes this a great place to live and work in.”
