Two children are celebrating after winning £50 each in an Easter trail which saw them ‘hop’ to 14 different town centre shops on the hunt for iconic bunnies.
Grace and James won the vouchers to spend in shops in Northampton town centre after completing the innovative trail over the Easter break.
Delivered by Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID), the trail featured wooden figures created by staff and students at Northampton College depicting 14 well-known rabbits from the world of TV, film and books.
Each rabbit was holding an Easter egg painted with a letter. The cut-outs were then placed into 14 town centre retailers, with visitors encouraged to track them down and make a note of all the letters, before unscrambling the anagram to reveal the phrase ‘Chocolate Bunny’. Once they had solved the puzzle they were able to collect their own chocolate bunny as a reward from Market Square News and enter a prize draw to win the vouchers.
Mark Mullen, operations manager at Northampton Town Centre BID, said: “Of all the trails we have done in the town centre, this one really captured the imagination and it was lovely to see so many families coming into town to give it a go.
“We heard from many families who loved taking part and really enjoyed discovering businesses and parts of the town they weren’t really aware of before, such as the new Heritage Park off Marefair.
“Lots of businesses said they had extra footfall as a result of the trail
“We are grateful for the support of the construction team at Northampton College, in particular Dave Brown, who painstakingly researched, designed and handpainted all 15 rabbit figures for us. His work brought the idea to life and we’re very appreciative of his support.”
Mark Bradshaw, curriculum manager for construction at Northampton College, said: “This was a lovely project and one that Dave really enjoyed getting his teeth stuck into.
“He’s a bit of a living legend round here and is so passionate about his signwriting and painted projects. It’s great to see the impact his work has had and to know that it has had a positive outcome for so many town centre businesses.”
